KMP to Malacanang: “Show us the executive order on the national ID system!”

The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) challenged Malacanang to present a copy of the so-called draft executive order implementing the national ID system signed by Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

According to Ka Willy Marbella, deputy secretary general of KMP, “the regime is again testing the waters to see what the reaction of the people to this repressive measure. They should furnish us a copy of the EO and we will prove point by point that it is an infringement to one’s right to privacy, unconstitutional and poses a danger to our lives,”

“Thirty-four activists have already been killed by the military since January, if the national ID system is implemented, it would be easier for the AFP and PNP assassins to track and kill us because they are the ones who have access to the information contained on the I.D.s. The killing of activists will only escalate through the national ID system,”

As for his part Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of the group, “we are prepared to fight the national ID system in any and all arenas, we are now consulting our lawyers on the moves that we will make against it, because if this measure pushes through then it is the advent of martial rule,” # # #
