The largest and most militant peasant organization in the Philippines the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) welcomed the call of 3 bishops of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) for the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The feisty bishops are Bishop Julio Xavier Labayen, Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniquez and Novaliches Bishop Antonio Tobias. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of KMP, “it is high time that more bishops are speaking out against a regime that has caused a lot of suffering to their flock and we hope that in the near future it is the CBCP itself that will call for Gloria’s ouster. It should not turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the growing demand for a change in government and the true application of social justice,” “We would also support the bishops call for the “national day of mourning and protest on June 12, to highlight our struggle against foreign control and to assert our sovereignty, because what happened in June 12, 1946 was nothing but the announcement of our nominal independence, making us therefore a neo-colony of the US up till now. It is because of this that the policies of the different regimes up to present one are always for the benefit of foreign corporations and to the detriment of the Filipino people,” added the peasant leader. Meanwhile Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of the group, “it is good that an increasing number of sectors are voicing out their demand to oust Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from power because the Filipino masses have suffered enough. We cannot take it anymore and everyday that Gloria stays in Malacanang another burden is added on the almost breaking back of Juan Pasankrus,” “It is now just a matter of time before
Gloria’s fall from grace because make no mistake it is inevitable,” ended
