The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) issued a fearless forecast that the proposed constitutional convention (Con con) to change the charter will inevitably lead to the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of the group, “this issue will definitely be the last straw that would ignite the building conflagration to oust Gloria from power. By floating this issue now, her record breaking low popularity rating will have nowhere to go but down and also at a very rapid rate. Everybody knows that she is just pushing for charter change just to stay longer in power and to eliminate nationalist provisions in the constitution,” “Add the con con issue to the slew of other controversies and hardships encountered by the populace today, then we have a very volatile situation. The Con con will cause a bigger political devastation to the regime, than the ‘jueteng’ issue. Malacanang is mistaken by thinking that by floating the con con issue now it can deflect the heat created by the talks on ‘jueteng’ from the First family. But in reality, it is like adding gasoline to a fire and will only ensure the further isolation of the regime,” added Ramos. Meanwhile Ka Willy Marbella, deputy secretary of KMP, “if Gloria pushes for Cha-cha then she has sealed her political coffin and we will gladly bury it. The Constitution is bad enough as it is but it will only become worse when the greedy hands of politicians mold it to their liking, it would become a Frankenstein constitution if this happens,” “Besides what we need is to change the
whole system and not just the constitution. The political, economic, cultural
and military aspect of the country must be changed for progress to be ensured
and a step to this goal is the ouster of Gloria,” ended Marbella. # # #
