Luisita farmworkers add their voice in calling for Gloria’s ouster

The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) together with the Unyon ng Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA) welcomed the added voice of the farmworkers of Hacienda Luisita in calling for Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s ouster from Malacanang.

According to Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general of KMP, “this is inded a welcome development and just goes to show the continuing isolation of the Macapagal-Arroyo regime. The strike in Hacienda is almost 8 months now, but up till now nothing has been done by Gloria to alleviate the plight of the 33,000 inhabitants of the estate,”

“We are also one with the farmworkers when they till the land that is rightfully theirs next week. It is but right and just for them to take action themselves because they can expect nothing from this regime,” added the peasant leader.

Meanwhile Rene “Ka Boyet” Galang, concurrent president of UMA and the United Luisita Worker’s Union (ULWU), “we have had enough, the Cojuangcos and Gloria are just trying to break our will to continue with our struggle for land. We will now start to till the land because we have nothing to eat and most importantly it is ours. Our brothers have already sacrificed their lives for this land, we will honor them by planting crops that will nourish not only our bodies but our fighting spirit as well,”

“We have entered into countless negiotiations with the Cojuangcos and still they would not give our just demands, now is the time to take our action at a higher level, because now Marines have also been deployed in the hacienda and they are now starting to construct the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway without even counsulting us. This road is a pet project of Gloria and is highly illegal, because it will tear through our lands. This is tantamount to declaring war upon the farmworkers in the hacienda, and we will not back down,” ended Galang. # # #
