“Gloria’s apology demolished her claim to legitimacy!”-KMP

The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) aired this view after Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo admitted that she was the female voice in the controversial Gloriagate tapes and apologized for her transgressions.

According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of KMP, “all her claims of legitimacy as president have all been dashed   by her admission of calling a COMELEC commissioner to cheat in the elections. She may have been mum on this aspect of the issue in her statement of apology but it is obvious that in the tapes they are monitoring the counting of the votes and if the cheating that they have done were effective or needs some troubleshooting. This is as clear as daylight to anyone who had heard the tapes,”

“The only recourse for her now with a semblance of honor is for her to resign, there are no ifs and buts about it. She immediately has to go. A criminal however repentant must be punished, or else she would set such a bad precedent that all the inhabitants of the state’s prisons should be freed,” added the peasant leader.

“Basically her public apology’s purpose is to pull on the heart strings of Filipinos and use it to consolidate her rule, but actually the people are not buying it. The popular sentiment is for her to resign or be ousted from power, justice must be served,” stressed Ramos.

Meanwhile Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of KMP, “what Gloria did was practically political suicide, her fate is sealed and if she does not step down, mass protests in the coming weeks will become bigger and bigger that before the year ends she will be ousted from power. If she has any delicadeza left, she should relinquish her seat immediately,”

“Our call now to the businessmen, the military and the police, is to abandon Gloria for she herself has declared her participation on the highest crime possible on current Philippine democracy and that is stealing the mandate of the people. As for the alternative to Gloria it will depend upon her actions in the next few weeks. If she stubbornly clings to power then a mass uprising is in the offing that would create an interim or transition council, but if she resigns then there is still room for constitutional succession,” ended Ala. # # #
