“A small step in the right direction!”-KMP
The militant Kilusang Mabubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) described the Supreme Court temporary restraining order (TRO) on the implementation of the Expanded Valued Added Tax (E-VAT), as a small step in the right diection to the eventual junking of the law. If the SC really sides with the people then it would work for the immediate scrapping of the controversial law. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of the group, “the 13-2 vote of the SC justices is almost tantamount to the high court’s withdrawal of support from the president, who is the primary proponent of the bill. This also proves our position that the E-VAT law is anti-peasant and anti-people and needs to be scrapped entirely,” “Just look at the humongous increase on
oil prices, when it was implemented even for a day, this is unbearable! This
will cause the closure of many companies and an unprecented increase in
unemployment. This is the last straw, in the next few weeks more and more
people will fill the streets to oust Gloria. Even the business sector
is now having doubts on Gloria and is receptive of the idea of overthrowing
her from power.
Meanwhile Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer of KMP, said, “when Gloria is ousted, one of the first acts of the transition council is to scrap the E-VAT law. All the anti-people laws that Gloria approved would be scrapped like the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), which caused the perpetual increase in electric power. Other laws like the Oil Deregulation Law, which cause the almost daily oil price hikes and our membership to the World Trade Organization, which cause massive bankruptcies and unemployment our country would also be scrapped,” “These are the immediate concrete gains
of the people when Gloria is ousted from power and a transition council
assumes power. If she is to resign though then her successor should implement
these measures to alleviate the plight of the people,” ended Ala. # # #
