The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) hit US Charge d Affaires Darryl Johnson for saying that it is normal for the United States of America to spy on the Philippines. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of KMP, “if it is normal for the US to conduct spying even on its so-called allies then it should also be applied conversely, but in reality that does not happen. The US is monitoring everyone but it retaliates when the same is done to it. The US government is indeed the real big brother. Not only is it spying on us, but it also directly intervenes with our internal affairs,” “Let us not forget AGILE or the Accelerated Growth through Investment, Livelihood and Equity which placed agents on strategic public and private agencies, companies, institutions and bureaus in the Philippines to favor the interest they represent e.g. US interest. Now with the recent contract signing of National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales with Venable LPP to lobby in the US for Philippine charter change then this meddling with our affairs would be intensified,” said the peasant leader. “With these incidents the neo-colonial character of the Philippines in relation to the US is magnified for every observer to see. These are concrete proof of US meddling in internal Philippine affairs. Our country according to the Constitution, the administration, and even the US government was supposed to be sovereign and independent, but it seems that they were just joking when they said this. The administration and the US government is making a mockery of our country,” added Ramos. Meanwhile Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy
secretary general of the group said, “the US is again capitalizing on its
dominance as the only superpower in the world, that it is all right for
it to do what it wants even if it violates international laws and even
its own laws, as long as it is the one doing the violations. This is the
height of hypocrisy and double standard. What is worse is that it is hoodwinking
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration to dismiss this atrocity, and
with Gloria’s servility it may get away with it,” # # #
