The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) aired its suspicion and alarm over the extreme parallelisms happening between the Marcos and Macapagal-Arroyo regimes. According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of KMP, “Gloria and her allies like Miriam are reliving the days before Martial rule and are following the pattern used by Marcos step by step. The pushing for Charter change, the calibrated preemptive response (CPR), EO 464, the supposed assassination plot against Gloria and the Anti-Terrorism bills are all patently Marcos moves with Gloria’s touch. These are all already recycled and just given a new name. All are also geared so that Gloria can remain in power just like the former strongman. It seems that they are really setting up a police state scenario,” “The elements that are just missing now are a Plaza Miranda-like bombing but this may already be being hatched by the dirty-tricks department of the Palace. The other one is an Enrile-like fake ambush attempt, but this time it seems that Gloria, is the supposed target, so that it would jibe with Miriam’s story of an assassination plot against Gloria. With the things Malacanang’s spin doctors are coming up with, these scenarios are not that farfetched,” added the peasant leader. Meanwhile Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general of KMP said, “Gloria and her allies would now also use the latest Bali bombings to railroad the Anti-Terrorism bill, which is beyond doubt worse that Martial Law itself. Basically anyone who speaks against the government can be detained for 30 days without charges, wiretapping is allowed and civil liberties is thrown out the window. They are pushing this bill not so much as to combat terror but to use it against the critics of Gloria and preserve her power,” “That is why even if they know that countries
with anti-terror laws or similar laws like the United Kingdom, Indonesia,
the US and Australia cannot prevent terror attacks, they are still hell
bent on approving it. Unless the root causes of why certain organizations
engage in these activities are addressed, they will continue and no amount
of anti-terror bills can stop it. It will just be like adding fuel to the
fire,” ended the peasant leader. # # #
