Indonesian police find nine bombs on bus in West Java
Indonesian police says they have found nine homemade bombs packed into cylinders
on a bus in West Java province.
The discovery comes as police step up security across the country following warnings
from Western governments of a possible terrorist attack over the Christmas period.
National police chief General Da'i Bachtiar did not say whether police had made any
arrests over the discovery of the bombs.
West Java lies adjacent to Jakarta.
Reuters newsagency says security experts believe the mountainous province is one
of the favourite places for Islamic militants linked to al Qaeda to hide out.
Islamic militants linked to al Qaeda have launched bomb attacks in recent years in
Indonesia, hitting nightclubs in Bali, the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta as well as the
Australian embassy in the capital.
In the worst attack, 202 people were killed in Bali when militants bombed two
nightclubs two years ago.
Indonesian police have blamed the Jemaah Islamiah network, believed to be the
regional arm of al Qaeda, for the bombings.
