Police find 120 home-made bombs in restive Poso
JAKARTA (AFP): Indonesian police have found a stash of more than 120 ready-to-use
home-made bombs in a graveyard in the restive province of Central Sulawesi, an
official said Monday.
A total of 123 devices were found in an Islamic graveyard in Poso town on Sunday,
Poso police chief Abdi Darma said.
Eight of the bombs had been filled with shrapnel including nails and sharpened metal.
The bombs were "ready to be used for possible new attacks," Darma said, without
speculating on who might have been stockpiling the cache.
Poso has seen intermittent communal violence between Muslims and Christians
since 2000 despite a government-brokered peace accord agreed two years ago.
The discovery of the bombs came after gunmen shot and wounded a man on the
grounds of Bethany church in Poso on Thursday.
A Hindu woman was also killed and two Christian men wounded last week when a
group fired randomly into houses in the region on the same day that two Christians
were hacked to death near the provincial capital Palu. (*)
