I just left SISA foreign language institute in Koyang City, KyonggiDo. The name is a lie - it's not connected with the real SISA, one of my adult students checked.
The "guaranteed 120 hours/month" is a lie - I had over 300 hours in my overtime account (he keeps the overtime until teachers leave - BAD NEWS) but was only paid for 100 hours because of all the months when he couldn't give us the "quaranteed hours." Basically, there is no guarantee. He just averages everybody's pay. My friends who are leaving in 3 weeks stand to lose about 6 million won because he's refusing to pay their bonuses and he's taking some of their overtime as well. He lied to me by telling me that my contract end date was changed from August to July and then used my leaving in July as reason for not paying my air fare.
Teachers are expected to live in a "dorm" and use a public toilet.
Classes are from 6 AM to 10 PM. Sleep deprivation has damaged the health of many teachers. Finally, we all threatened to leave "on Tuesday" if our schedlues weren't fixed. I was really looking forward to leaving but he relented. Now he's trying to hire a new group of teachers. I hope I can warn them before anyone else signs a contract with him.
This guy is EVIL. Even the adult students sense it when just meeting him for a few minutes. He's angry and volitle. It's not a good place. If people want that general area, the teachers at English 20/20 and ECC are very happy and making a lot more money.
