Hello. My name is Shawn. I posted long letter on ELS cafe about the Koje-do Wonderland. However, it's already gone and I didn't get a chance to cut and past. My friend Mike posted another message for me. Could you please ad his comments to the gray list for me. I have no time now to rewrite my letter. Thanks: I work for another school on Koje Island, and I read the recent post about Wonderland here in Gohyun. This week just gone, I helped the last foreign teacher there to run away. The other teacher, who has posted here previously, went last month. The last straw for my friend here was being locked in the school and being the subject of sudden aggression and a mild assault from the owner. The owner and the Principal entered his apartment with a spare key and stole his teaching diploma for use as a tool for threats and blackmail. I met him in a safe place and he was shaken and very upset. I have now lost two friends from Koje Wonderland because of the conditions within this school. It is to be avoided by the green and the experienced alike. Whilst I appreciate that most problems can be ironed out with some discussion, the owner and his wife, who is the Principal, are beyond reproach. They prefer to maintain a genial front until you have your visa settled and you're registered locally and then they change completely. The children and the school itself are great, but these are nowhere near enough compensation for the two abusive individuals who lord over it. DO NOT GO THERE! My partner and I are also experiencing problems at our own school, but luckily we have absolute stars for Principal and Vice Principal, who are both great guys and they are acting as a barrier between us and the owner, whilst they receive the same treatment as us from him. Korea does have great people like them, and we are indebted to them. PS. Koje is a pleasant island, and for those who have seen the urban area alone, they have not seen the beauty of the middle and south here. Me again: P.S. The assault was a little ore than mild...I had to physically fight my way out of being held prisoner at the school and I lost a month's pay. I had to sign some forms in order to get my bag they stole back, which left me with no pay. 12/00 |
