Founded during the Edo period some 400 years ago by Takenaga Hayato, a student of Yagyu Tajima-no-Kami Munenori, Yagyu Shingan Ryu Heihojutsu today centers on the practice of taijutsu kenpo (unarmed combat), torite (arresting & capturing), kenjutsu (sword) and bojutsu (staff), and also includes a range of training such as kacchu yawara (armoured grappling), jingama (sickle), yoroidoshi (armour-piercing dagger), jingasa (helmet), odachijutsu (long sword), shinpo (esoteric teachings), kappo (healing and resuscitation methods) and hyoho (strategy).
Philip hinshelwood Sensei is a personal student of Shihan Shimazu Kenji Sensei, headmaster of the Yagyu Shingan Ryu Heihojutsu Kyodensho 'Chikuosha' school and a line of Morishige Ryu Hojutsu, and is authorized as an instructor. For further information, please contact:
