COME AND RECEIVE
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Greetings on this bright Monday morning! We had a warm afternoon
yesterday and it will be warm again today. My mother is doing well. She
did not bleed at all yesterday or the day before. Again I thank you all
for your generous prayers for her.
I spent a half hour with Jesus in contemplative prayer this morning. He
spoke to me saying, "Melvin, I live in your heart, I love you. I called
you, Melvin, long ago to be my close friend. We now have an intimate
relationship which is deepened every day by contemplative prayer. I am
calling many to this intense friendship with me. You will go again
tomorrow to teach another group about my preferred prayer, contemplative
prayer. Enkindle in them all a great desire for this simple but deep
prayer. It is an effective way to remain always in me. The example of
the tree and the branches shows very well the truth of this teaching.
The branches have to be rooted in the tree to produce leaves and fruit.
It is the same with each one of you. You have to be in me so that my
life flow in you. In this way you will produce good fruit. Without me
you cannot do anything good. Contemplative prayer helps you to be rooted
in me so that you produce wonderful fruit of holiness. You will imitate
me by being kind, patient, loving, caring and filled with peace. Come
and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of heart. I want to carry
you all in my heart. Come to me and receive the pearl of great price,
the treasure hidden for so long. You are mine, I love you."
I believe the greatest treasure we can have is the close and abiding
friendship with Jesus. It is the role of the Church to bring us all to
Him by means of her teaching and through the sacraments especially the
sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. However, the Church cannot form in us
this friendship with Jesus, only we can do that. Our effort and
cooperation are needed so that an intimate relationship grows between
us. We have to apply ourselves daily to contemplative prayer to come
close to Jesus. This morning, Jesus calls us all to this intimate
relationship. We can all begin by contemplating every day even if we
only give Him 5 to 10 minutes a day to start. A lady who is no longer
young called me to tell me that now her half hour of prayer is just like
spending a minute or two with Jesus. It goes by so fast. For me, my half
hour with Jesus is truly a taste of heaven. Time does not mean anything.
I only desire to be with Him. Let us come and learn from Jesus. He is
the pearl of great price. Let us receive this great treasure from Him.
I will go to Petit Rocher, N.B. tomorrow and I will be back Wednesday
night. I will send you Jesus' message tomorrow before I leave.
May Jesus give you all the pearl of great price.

P.S. Please pray for Wayne, a great friend of mine, who is only 57 years
old and suffering terribly from lung cancer and a stomach ulcer. He is a
great friend of Jesus.
