I WANT TO LIVE IN YOUR HEART
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Dear Marie,
Good morning on this dark and wet day! It is also very cool. I was in
St. Anthony's Bloomfield yesterday afternoon for a burial and then I
went to Tignish to mail books ordered by some of you. I sent one to
Santa Maria, California. I also prayed with a sick person who came to
see me.
I spent a half hour with Jesus this morning who spoke to me saying,
"Melvin, I love you. I'm bringing you today to Jerusalem, to the upper
room where I gathered with the Apostles to celebrate the last supper and
to institute the Eucharist. At the beginning of the supper, I said that
one of those present would betray me. I gave a morsel of bread to Judas
to indicate that he was the one. He immediately got up and left the
room. It was after his departure that I instituted the Eucharist. I took
bread in my hands, broke it and said, 'This is my body which will be
given up for you.' I then gave the Eucharist to the Apostles to eat.
When supper was ended I took a cup of wine and said, 'This is the cup of
my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting convenant. It will be
shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory
of me.' I then passed the chalice to the Apostles to drink. I instituted
this sacrament by changing the bread and wine into my very body and
blood. My dear friends, repent of your sins and come often to receive me
in Holy Communion. In this way I will come to live in your heart. This
sacrament expresses my great love for you. Remember my words, 'If you do
not eat my body and drink my blood, you do not have life in you.' The
life I am referring to is eternal life, which you need to reach heaven.
Come to receive me every day if possible. I want to live in your heart.
I love you."
I had the great privilege when I was in Jerusalem to celebrate the Holy
Eucharist in the chapel adjacent to the "upper room" where Jesus
instituted this great sacrament. Up till a few years ago, it was owned
by a Moslem family but they gave it to the Pope when he visited
Jerusalem some years ago. It is a very precious historical place. it is
there that Jesus pronounced the words of consecration found in the Bible
in the following passages: Matthew 26: 26 - 29; Mark 14: 22 - 25; Luke
22: 14 - 20; 1 Cor 11: 23 - 26. We have the doctrine of the Holy
Eucharist in John 6, 35 - 58. The fact that all the Evangelists wrote
about the Eucharist shows the great importance they attached to it. What
a wonderful gift the Lord has given us in this sacrament! Let us listen
to Jesus' words and come daily if possible to receive Him in Holy
Communion.
I will go to the prayer meeting this evening at Palmer Road Church. On
the following day, Thursday, we will start the seminar in the Life in
the Spirit. I am sure many people will come.
Please continue to pray for the sick especially my mother who has a
terrible cold and is very weak. Pray too for Wayne and Michelle who are
in much pain.
May the Lord give you all a great thirst for the Eucharist, this
wonderful gift of Himself to us all.
