I  AM  KNOCKING  AT  THE  DOOR

Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning! It is cloudy but it is beginning to clear up. I hope we
will have plenty of sun today. I was at the prayer meeting last evening
and many were present. Today we begin the seminar in the life in the
Spirit and we expect as usual a large crowd. I hope to be there this
evening. I will go to Alberton this morning for a deanery meeting and
this afternoon I will take part in an ecumenical memorial service for
all
those who died at the manor during the past year. I will give the
homily.

In my intense prayer this morning, I was with Jesus who spoke saying,
"Melvin, my brother and friend, I love you. I'm sure you remember
reading in the Bible about my visit to Bethany near Jerusalem. I went
often to the home of Lazarus, Mary and Martha, my great friends. Mary's
place was always at my feet while Martha was always busy preparing food
or doing something else. Once Martha was annoyed that her sister left
her alone to do all the work. She complained to me saying, 'tell her to
help me.' I told her that Mary had chosen the better part and it would
not be taken from her. All those who come to contemplation are like
Mary sitting at my feet and listening to what I am telling them. They
open their heart to me and are completely focussed on me. The ears of
their heart are opened and they are in profound silence. Their minds are
still as they look upon me. My brothers and sisters, I call you to this
prayer of the heart. Are your ears of the heart opened? Do you see with
the eyes of your heart? Ask and I will open them for if you seek, you
shall find. If you choose this prayer, you will choose the better way. I
will become your constant companion and we will always be together. Your
heart was made for me. If I possess it then you will find the peace you
are looking for. I am knocking at the door. Will you open now for me? I
love you."

The Bible passage that Jesus was talking about today can be found in
Luke 10: 38 - 42. We know from other passages that the village is
Bethany and that the sisters had a brother called Lazarus, whom Jesus
raised from the dead. Mary sat at Jesus' feet in contemplation. She did
not need a mental picture of Him as He was right there with her. When we
enter contemplation we do what Mary did. We focus on Jesus and listen to
Him as He speaks to our heart. In the last book of the Bible, in
Revelation 3, 10 Jesus says that He is knocking at the door. The verse
reads, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice
and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and
he with me." We are the only one who can open the door of our heart. Let
us not leave Jesus outside but allow Him to come in. It is especially in
contemplative prayer that He comes and "dines" with us.

I will go and visit my mother at the Manor today. She is not well but I
pray that with all your prayers she will be cured soon.

May the Lord bless you all with the gift of contemplation.
