YOU  WILL  BE  MADE  NEW

Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning on this sunny Wednesday! It is cool this morning and there
is some wind but the sun is shining bright. I will celebrate the Holy
Eucharist at Tignish Church at 10:30 this morning. Last evening I was in
Alberton for the meeting of the Knights of Columbus. They have started
meeting again after a break for the summer.

I was with Jesus today in prayer. He spoke to me saying, "Melvin, my
friend, I love you. Every time you come to me in prayer, you bring great
joy to my heart. Faithfulness in prayer is the means to grow in our
relationship. Make time in your busy day to be with me in a deep an
intimate prayer from the heart. I call all my brothers and sisters,
young and not so young, to take up contemplative prayer. In this prayer
you will come to know me as your friend and your love for me will grow
every day. Your mind will be less occupied with earthly pleasures and
more focused on me. Your work will become an offering to me rather than
a burden you carry out day after day. Live with me and your world will
have greater meaning. I will give you my gift of peace, so needed today
in this world of turmoil. My dear friends, sickness and suffering are
part of life. Without me these adversities are difficult to handle. They
can bring depression and despair. With me, these difficult times can be
opportunities to come to know me better, to turn your life around and
come closer to me. It is at such times that you can break with bad
habits such as smoking, using my name in vain, drinking, gambling,
gossiping, etc. With my grace you will be made new. I bless you."

Jesus is our teacher. He teaches us many good lessons today. He tells us
the importance of faithfulness in prayer. Let us persevere in spending
time with Him in contemplative prayer every day. If we do, our love and
friendship will grow steadily.

With Jesus our work will be more satisfying as we offer it to Him every
morning. He will also give us the gift of peace, which we all crave for
in this mixed-up world. Jesus also talks about sickness and suffering.
These do not come from Him but are the result of sin that entered the
world at the beginning. It is always difficult to accept these things in
our lives. With Jesus much good can come from it. We can turn toward Him
and accept Him in our life and come close to Him. We can break our bad
habits and most of us do have habits we could do without. When things
are going well we tend to forget about God, but when suffering comes our
way, we come back to Him and it is often at those times that we make
changes in our lives.

St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, was converted after he
injured his leg badly and had to remain in bed for a long time. Jesus
often uses those moments to call us to Himself.

I will go to the prayer meeting this evening at Palmer Road. I will pray
for all of you.

May the Lord renew us with His grace.

Father Melvin
