Overview:

Having never been exposed to Ihre Kinder, I found myself lucky enough to track down a decent vinyl copy of the groups fourth album 'Werdohl' for about $5. 'Werdohl' marked the bands first attempt at producing themselves, their two prior albums having been done with Thomas Klemt at Union Studio in Munich. Musically, the album showcases a folk flavored pop/rock sound, political lyrics, and a slight hint of progressive rock. Coincidentally, the albums strongest cuts, the instrumental title-track and 'Kennst Du Den Mann', are also the most progressive in nature. 'Werdohl' builds slowly with folk flavored acoustic guitar and piano before ending with a heavy electric guitar riff and spastic organ solo. 'Kennst Du Den Mann' is a groovy heavy rocker which reminds me of a few tracks on the Cravinkel debut LP. Other tracks worth noting are 'Die Graue Stadt' and 'Schlaf-Lied'. 'Die Graue Stadt' kicks off with a blistering conga/tom-tom percussion and a heavy guitar riff accented with saxophone. Countering this is the subtle 'Schlaf-Lied', a dreamy number with emotional music accents. The album was released on CD in 1993 by Ohrwaschl as OW025 for those of you who might be interested in tracking down the album. [3/5 Doug]
