| Angel's Tattoo |
| In the episode "Angel" in season 2 of BTVS we are shown a tattoo that Angel has on his right shoulder blade. The tattoo is of a Gryphon holding the letter "A". There's never been an explanation as to where the tattoo originated, but assuming that Liam would not have had an "A" tattooed on his back we can only surmise that it must have been Angelus' doing. |
| The design of the Gryphon seems to have been inspired by "The Book of Kells" an ancient Celtic book containing the four gospels of the Catholic faith. The Gryphon is one of four traditional winged figures representing the Evangelists: the Gryphon representing St Mark. |
| Joss Whendon had wanted a tattoo designed for Angel. He had in mind a shamrock or something about that size. When they began fliming the episode "Angel" and Joss saw the tattoo for the first time he was shockedby it's size but he decided to kept the Gryphon thinking that it suited Angel. Thank you Joss. |
