WHAT LOVE IS

Love is my grandchildren
making a drawing of a dog for me
that looks more like a pumpkin with legs
but when I display it on my fridge
and see the pride in their eyes
It might as well be a Picasso.
Love is when they bring me a summer bouquet,
roots and all
and dance with joy
when I place it right in the middle of my dining table.
Love is my daughter showing up at my door mid-afternoon
with a big foamy cup of cappuccino
just because she knows I love it.
Love is my husband making sure I have my umbrella
when rain threatens.
Love is feeling him tuck the covers around me
In the middle of the night.
Love is my friends
old and new
praying for me when problems arise.
Love is hearing my grown children
say, "I love you mama."
Last, but not least of all,
love is when I’ve been gone for the day
and my animals act like I am the queen of the earth when I return.
To me, that’s what love is.
