COMMANDERY OF KENTUCKY
MILITARY ORDER OF THE LOYAL LEGION
OF THE UNITED STATES
MOLLUS HISTORY
Upon the death of President Abraham Lincoln on April 15, 1865, a group of Federal Officers formed to act as an honor guard for the remains.  These officers later met to form a society to commemorate the events and principles of the War.  The Commandery of the State of Pennsylvania was organized November 4, 1865, to date from April 15, commemorating the day of the first meeting and the death of President Lincoln.  MOLLUS became the first military society based upon the War of the Rebellion to be formed.
PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTS
The Order acknowledges as its fundamental principles; a firm belief and trust in God and true allegiance to the United States of America.
The objects of the Order are to foster military and naval science, promote allegiance to the United States government, perpetuate the memory of those who fought to preserve the unity and indivisibility of the Republic and to honor the memory and promote the ideals of President Abraham Lincoln.
WHAT WE DO
Each year MOLLUS sponsors and participates in a variety of ceremonies and programs designed to promote its Objectives, including:
Programs to honor Lincoln and all veterans
Supporting the efforts of battlefield preservation
               Literary awards to promote research
Erecting and maintaining monuments to the War
               Presenting ROTC awards
               Publishing a quarterly journal
               Other patriotic and educational activities
THE KENTUCKY COMMANDERY
While numerous Kentuckians have joined MOLLUS from the moment of its creation, there was never a seperate Kentucky Commandery.  In May of 2002 steps were taken to form the new Commandery.  With hard work and diligence, Kentucky was granted Provisional status soon afterward.  At the MOLLUS Annual Congress in October of 2004, Kentucky was fully activated with 11 Companions and 3 dual members.
