Disclaimer: Yeah yeah Gundam Wing not mine blah blah blah. If you want to sue me, I guarantee you'll come with less money than you had before after you pay the court fines only to discover that I have NOTHING except for this computer and all the GW mangas, episodes, and even an American-made comic pretending to be a manga. So there.
AN: This fic is the result of pure boredom and too much coffee at two in the morning. So if it sucks, I'm sorry. Inspiration chooses its time and place, not me.
"Whoa, whoa! Slow down Duo! Now what is it that you came here to ask me?" Quatra asked a very nervous Duo.
Duo paced back and forth in the room for a few minutes before mumbling something.
"What was that?" Quatra asked again.
"I said I need help asking Hilde to marry me!" Duo nearly yelled.
Quatra paused a moment and looked at his friend, bewildered. "You're actually going to ask her this time?"
Duo gave him as close to an angry look as he could before his face melted to the most pitiable expression ever seen. "Yes, but I don't know how!" he nearly whined.
Quatra smiled at him. "Why not try something romantic? Like a walk on the beach and then you could get down on one knee and ask her, like a gentleman?"
Duo eyed him carefully. "Gentleman? That ain't me! It's gotta be somethin' different. Somethin' that's me, but not me, ya' know?"
"No, I don't. I'm sorry Duo but I don't think I can help you. Why don't you try asking Relena? I'm sure she would know, since she and Hilde are such close friends."
Duo rubbed his chin and grinned. "Hey, you're right! If Relena is Hilde's best friend then she's sure to know!" And with that, Duo was out the door, waving goodbye with a final 'thanks' as he left Quatra's estate.
Quatra sighed. "I have a feeling something strange is about to happen." Quatra had no idea how right he was.
Climbing out of the van, a lone reporter looked over at the Darlian estate. "I'll get the dirt on you, Vice Foreign Minister. And when I do, I'll get the biggest raise in history! And I'll be the best-known reporter in the world! Ha ha ha!" She finished setting up her equipment to begin spying on the young woman as she did every day, hoping for something, anything, that would get her to be noticed by her superiors. And where better to start than by the most watched woman in the world? It was a lot easier now that that pesky brother of hers had finally finished his vacation and gone back to Mars, and the guards around this place never spotted her, so she had nothing to fear.
She grabbed her binoculars and climbed into a bushy tree. It's a good thing I spend a lot of time at the gym, she thought. She put the binoculars to her eyes and scanned the gardens where she knew Relena took a walk every day at this time. It's also a good thing I can read lips or this would be useless.
"Ah ha!" She exclaimed when she spotted her prey taking her routine stroll among the flowers. But wait! Someone was with her! It was a man; long brown hair, tied back in a braid, black clothes, and a strikingly handsome face.
"Excellent taste, Minister. But who-" she cut herself off and gaped at what he was saying.
"So how am I supposed to do this? Get down on one knee and just ask, like Quatra said?"
The young reporter gasped as the young man got down on one knee, placing one hand on his heart and taking Relena's hand in the other.
"Please! Oh please will you marry me? My darling! My darling!" The man said as he kissed her hand.
"Oh...my...God..." The reporter whispered. She pulled the camera up from around her neck and snapped a photo, then took out a pen and pad of paper and quickly wrote down what she was seeing. While her head was down, however, the conversation continued.
"Duo, get up! Don't try to be someone you're not. If Hilde loves you, then she'll accept you just the way you are. You don't have to try to be romantic to win the heart of someone who already loves you very much." Relena said to Duo as she laughed at his little scene. He got up and smiled at her.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. Hilde's lucky to have a friend like you. Thanks Relena."
Relena gave him a hug. "No problem Duo. And good luck."
The reporter looked up and gasped again before she quickly snapped another photo. If they're hugging I guess that means 'yes!' Too bad I missed the kiss though. She smiled to herself as she watched the two of them walk back into the mansion.
"I've got you now." She smirked.
