Duo walked casually through the streets, expecting to find Heero on his usual aimless walk or at his apartment. He decided to try his apartment first.
He turned and headed for the entrance of the small apartment complex where Heero lived. As he walked up the steps, he thought he heard someone calling his name, but when he turned around he didn't see anyone. He walked the rest of the way up to Heero's apartment and knocked on the door.
"DUO!" Relena yelled as he disappeared into the building. How had he beaten her here? She didn't know, but that wasn't important. She ran up the steps just in time to see Duo knocking on Heero's door.
"Duo don't!"
He turned to look at her. "Relena? What are you doin' here?"
Just then, the door to the apartment opened and Duo found himself under the furious gaze of a very enraged Heero.
"You son of a bitch!" Duo's eyes widened and he ducked to the side, narrowly avoiding Heero's punch. Duo yelped in surprise, looked at Relena, then started running away as Heero punched again.
"Come back here!" Heero snarled as he started running after Duo. He didn't get very far as a pair of arms wrapped around his waist and pulled him back, sending him toppling to the floor. Duo kept running.
"What the hell are you doing? Let go of me!" Heero growled. Relena knew she couldn't restrain him physically, but she had to give Duo time to escape. If he makes it off the colony, he and Hilde can go through with the wedding and then Heero will know the truth. But what am I supposed to do? I can't hold Heero down.
There was only one thing to do.
She rolled over and positioned herself so that she was straddling him. He didn't notice at first because he was still trying to get up and run after Duo. He grabbed both her wrists and stared at her, then suddenly realized the position she had put them in.
"Get off me Relena." He said coldly.
"Not until you hear what I have to say." She said as she tried to free her wrists.
He locked eyes with her. "Get off me Relena."
She narrowed her eyes. "No."
He glared at her for a few moments, then tried to push her off him.
Instinctively, she ground herself against him and kissed him, knocking them back on the floor.
"What...are you...doing...to me...?" Heero managed to say despite Relena's desperate kiss.
"Giving Duo time to escape! Heero, you don't understand what's-"
"Duo!" Heero yelled as he grabbed her shoulders, shoving her off him and to the side. He stood up and stared in the direction Duo had run.
His eyes narrowed. "I'm going to kill Duo." He started to run.
"No Heero wait!" Relena called after him as she got up and ran to catch up.
Duo looked nervously out the shuttle window as it departed from the colony, hoping desperately to get away from Heero. He had seen the cover of a tabloid as he was running down the street and almost screamed in horror. He realized right then that Relena must have seen it too and come there to stop him, but it was too late. Whatever she was doing to restrain him, he hoped it worked.
"Welcome to Quick Quickie's Wedding Chapel, Sir! Enjoy your stay, and congratulations!"
"Thanks," Duo said to the receptionist as he arrived at his destination and ran to get ready for the wedding. If he was going to die, he was going to die a married man. Married to the most beautiful woman in the world. He glanced at his watch. Three hours until the ceremony was supposed to start. That was just enough time to get ready and avoid Heero, if he arrived.
Hilde finished putting on her make up and looked out the window. This is the happiest day of my life. She looked at the clock on the wall. It was almost time for the ceremony to begin. She hoped that Duo had arrived on time with Heero and Relena.
She walked out into the hall and spotted Quatre. "Hey Quatre!" she called to him. He came over to her and commented on how lovely she looked. "Thank you Quatre. And thank you for coming. I just wanted to know, is everything ready? Is Duo okay?"
Quatre smiled. "Don't worry about a thing Miss Hilde. Duo's finished getting ready and he seems quite anxious for the ceremony to begin."
"Oh. Ok, thank you Quatre." She walked down the hall to try and find Relena.
Trowa emerged and handed Quatra a copy of the tabloid. "I think this is going to be quite an interesting day." He said in his usual calm voice.
Quatra gasped. "Oh no! If Heero sees this, he's going to kill Duo!"
"I think he already has seen it, since I just saw him running into the chapel, followed by Relena. He certainly looked like he was going to kill someone, namely, the groom."
Quatre looked up at him with innocent fear. "We have to do something!"
At that moment, Duo ran past them screaming in terror. A few moments later, Heero ran by them with his gun drawn, yelling for Duo to just give up. He was soon followed by Relena, who was yelling something about how 'killing Duo wasn't going to solve anything' and that he should 'just listen to her before he made a terrible mistake'. After her came Hilde, who was yelling for Relena to 'stop running and get her ass to the chapel'.
Quatre and Trowa looked at each other.
"Perhaps we should just do nothing and watch?"
Quatre nodded numbly.
