Masterpiece Conspiracy

Part 1- The Reign of Darkness

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life; it goes on..."

~ Robert Frost

AC 199
Five Hours after the Attacks

He would soon see the person who did this to him and the rest of the world. He would soon look in that same man's eyes and see the person that committed them all back into a war, all back into Hell. And eventually that man will feel his anger and taste regret for his wrong doings in the recesses of his heart.

But Quatre knew he was only fooling himself. Even though he had ordered Iria to pull out the old blue prints and pull every Gundanium store they had, building a Gundam would take time. Therefore, building all five was out of the question. After all, their enemy had seven Gundams of their own and more than likely Tallgeese III would also be in their possession. Besides, he did not even know if all of the pilots were even still alive.

Of course they are, He scolded himself. They have to be. They just have to be.

But he knew with the chances, it would be a miracle if any of them still were alive. The Cinq Kingdom took the worst blow and Duo was supposed to have worked there that morning. He had not heard from Luxembourg or Mars since his Morning Report that occurred exactly thirteen minutes before the attacks. And no one had seen or heard from Heero since AC 196 when he had surfaced only briefly to help handle the Mariemaia Incident. Perhaps, he'd surface again.

He could only hope...

"Hello Quatre."

He turned to see Trowa's image displayed on his video screen. It was odd; He had never heard it click on.

"Hello Trowa. Have you found them?"

Trowa hesitated slightly. "Yes..."

Hope lit up in Quatre's red-rimmed dead eyes. He seemed to have found some of his old shine. He spoke again but this time with a little more cheer, "How are they?"

"The Princess is fine but Duo..." Trowa trailed off no longer looking in his best friend's eyes.

"Is he...?"

"He is still alive but..." He looked back up. "Quatre, he's paralyzed from the waist down. He has not woken up yet and as soon as he does we need to get them both to colony as soon as possible before Red Baron finds out they're missing."

"How is Relena?"

"She needs some cuts on her arms stitched up, but besides that she's fine."

"Trowa, if he does not wake up in the next ten minutes, I want you to go ahead and take off. The less we wait the better."

The circus performer stared at the businessman for a few minutes before one of them spoke...

"I have a very bad feeling about this. Be careful."

Trowa nodded and the connection was terminated.

Wufei Chang was a proud man. Ever since his wife died, he had thought women to be weak. And now to have been captured by six women, he knew what it was like to eat his words. Not only were it frustrating, but also infuriating.

He could hear one of the women coming now. Her boots clicked sharply on the stone floor. Perhaps, she would bring him some food, not that the Great Chang would ever admit to a weakling thing such as hunger.

However, who he saw was not who he was expecting.

"Angel?"

The woman smiled slightly, sadly as she crouched down to be eye level with him. As she did so her long ebony braid curled up on the filth covered ground. Even though her eyes were shadowed he knew they were the lightest iciest blues that he had ever seen. Everything about her was etched deeply into his memory. So, to hide all the feeling of seeing her, his face contorted into anger.

"How could you..."

"Wufei, what ever you are going to say I know I deserve to hear it but I don't have a lot of time and..."

She looked up as she heard footsteps, masculine footsteps. She looked back at Wufei in alarm and shoved something in his hand. She stood and saluted just as Heero Yuy turned the corner. Two guards stood behind him holding up an unconscious Preventer, a Preventer named Sally Po.

Trowa Barton had learned back during the Eve Wars to trust his best friend's 'feelings'. One reason was he was usually right. The second was Quatre was empathy. He felt other people's pain and Trowa knew that this war would take its toll not only on Quatre but also on the rest of them as well.

Speaking of the rest of them...

Duo Maxwell lay silently on his bed, conscious and alert. His violet eyes were pain filled but he still had a smile on his face. This man had always seemed to have the mind set that if I suffer no one else will have to.

"Trowa?" a ragged voice spoke from the fallen soldier on the bed. The taller man stopped pulling the retrains to look at his comrade in the eyes. Oh, how dark those violet pools seemed now.

"Yes, Duo?"

"How's Hilde and the baby?"

Trowa began to work again. He gently pulled the retrains across Duo's limbs and fastened them in way as to not hurt him. "I'm sure they are fine Duo. They did not attack any of the colonies."

"So you've told me, but do you think Quatre will let them stay at his mansion? It would make me feel more safe if they were with me."

"You know Quatre just as well as I do, Duo. Of course, he would."

"Yeah," Duo relaxed visibly but a grimace of pain came over his face. "Yeah," He grunted again. "Of course, he will. After all, this is Quatre."

Sally Po was not quite sure how long she had laid there on the cell floor. It hurt to move; it hurt to breathe. It even hurt to think. Her body was exhausted both mentally and physically. She just wanted to rest but she knew that sleep would not come. The discomfort was too great.

Tears burned in the back of her eyes unbidden by her. She clenched her eyes shut but tears still found ways of squeezing out. It was impossible to stop them.

Oh God, please make it go away. Please... I beg you... Please... Please...

Wufei stared at the picture in his hand. He was holding it so hard that his fingers ached. He did that to make sure it was true, to make sure it was real. He was holding the evidence that it was real, that it was true.

Angel sat on a faded orange couch with four children next to her. The youngest was a girl that looked of mixed African decent. She appeared only about a year old with curly dark brown hair with Angel's eyes. The next one was a little boy with sleek black hair and light hazel eyes. He looked to be about three years old. The two oldest were sitting on either side of Angel who was obviously the children's' Mama. They looked to be twins around the age five. The first was a little girl with two little black pigtails and large equally dark eyes. The next was a boy that too had dark hair cut mushroom style and sharp eyes the color of his Mother's.

The evidence was clear. It was staring straight at him. All along his feelings had been proven correct after five long years.

"When? How?"

A mischievous smile lit up upon Angel's face. "Darling, I believe you know when, considering it was the only time we ever done anything of that category. And how, well, I leave that up to you too..."

"What are their names?"

"Shenlong and Helen..."

Silence descended over the two like a fog. It was a thick coat of contentment. It settled over them as Angel tried to come to terms with Wufei knowing her secret and Wufei trying to come to terms with fatherhood.

"Wufei?"

"What?"

"Do you think Meiran is rolling over in her grave right now?"

"Barton! We got company!" Abdul screamed. His glasses slipped slightly down his nose as he crawled into the small shuttle. He ran into the cockpit to find Trowa in the pilot's seat and Auda in the copilot's seat.

"Get this plane off the ground." Trowa said calmly as he got up and left brushing past Abdul. The sunglasses clad Maquanac turned around to look at the ex-Gundam pilot incredulously.

"What are you? Crazy?! It would overheat in no time! Are you even listening to me? Barton?!"

Trowa turned and looked at him just as bullets came spraying through the open door. The two men took cover next to the walls. Abdul's glasses were now hanging halfway off his face as he opened his mouth to speak, "Okay, I've changed my mind! One flying shuttle coming right up!" And with that he sprinted into the cockpit without another word.

Trowa slid the door shut and ran down the short hallway to a room were Relena sat in a chair next to the wall. It was bolted to the floor and had leather straps that was hanging loosely by the chair. Duo was laying on the bed still strapped down.

"Relena! Buckle up!"

"Trowa? What's going on?"

"Just do as I say, Relena!"

Shaking she did as he told as he chained Duo's bed to the floor. Just as he finished the last one the shuttle lurched forward. It took all of Trowa's energy to get in another chair like Relena's instead of being thrown to the floor.

They could hear the bullets ricocheting off the outside.

"Cease fire! That's an order!"

"But it's getting away!" protested a red-haired teenager as she watched the aircraft get smaller and smaller in the sky.

"If you would have hit the gas tank, we would all have been blown away!" Screamed another woman. She had short dark chocolate hair and Prussian blue eyes. Also, she carried a resemblance to Heero Yuy except with lighter skin.

The red head stuck her tongue out at the other female. Her turquoise eyes sparkling. "You are such a stick in the mud, Andy!"

"Shut up and get in the car, Red!"

"So... Who's going to explain this to Heero?

Red Baron as an army was ruthless, fearless, and harsh. Red Baron the individual was no different. If anything, he seemed much worse than his military force.

Heero stood terse and rigid in the cool spring breeze, saluting his superior. His face showed no emotion. His body relayed no information as to what his feeling might be. However, each person present knew that Heero Yuy felt fear toward this man. It was a fear that had been developed as a child.

Red Baron stood a couple of inches taller than his son. His brown hair was age streaked with gray. His skin was tough. His hands were callused and the scar on his face practically shouted out his anger to the world.

Surely, this was not the son of the late Heero Yuy.

"You have done good work, boy. Is the Princess dead?" Red Baron's voice was low, gruff, and growling as he spoke to the man before him.

Heero brought his hand down. He stared at his father a moment before speaking in a solemn monotone drawl. "I have sent Lieutenant Raven and Lieutenant Firearms to confirm it but I can assure you she is dead. The Palace became dust hours ago. She could not have survived."

"Yes, boy but you do know our record with Peacecrafts, they are worse then roaches. They can never seem to die."*

"Understood, sir."

"Daddy..."

"Huh? What?" Ruby Yuy turned to look at her sister in the driver's seat of their stolen Preventer jeep. When Andy did not say anything, she looked straight ahead to see the fleet of red and black space shuttles and gulped.

"Uh oh, what are we going to tell them?"

The jeep squeaked slightly as it came to a halt. Andy got out never taking her eyes away from the sight before her until Ruby loudly cleared her throat.

"Tell them we found no survivors."

"But what about the shuttle? What if Peace-crap was on it?! Alive?!"

"For all we know we could have been shooting at her coffin."

Hilde Schbieker- Maxwell was not having a good day. First off, Duo had to leave at four o'clock that morning to catch the shuttle ride to Earth. He stepped on the cat while out the out. The cat had apparently screeched. That woke up the baby, which woke up her. She would not go back to sleep and Hilde had just gotten to bed that morning at two because she was packing Duo's bag while he was sleeping. So she was tired.

Then she went to the grocery store that morning at about eight. The baby kept picking things off the shelf and throwing them down. When Hilde would pick it up, the baby would laugh and do it again. Finally, she got to the cash register to write a check for the items when she couldn't find a pen. Someone loaned her one and in her hurry to get out of there, she ended up stealing it.

So she had been fixing some breakfast while the baby sat at the table chewing on the pen. It was then that her next door neighbor called her up telling her to turn on the news. So she did and just as the Cinq Kingdom Palace collapsed, she nearly burnt down her kitchen. She cried and coughed as she put out the fire. She lifted some windows, snatched up the baby, and ran to her bedroom. She grabbed the phone, put the baby on the floor, and turned on the TV.

Here she is four hours after the attacks thinking her husband is dead and still trying to get a hold of Quatre Winner.

"Mr. Winner, there is a woman from L2 that has been wanting to talk to you ever since this morning. We keep telling her well take a message. We all think she is a reporter but she says she wants to talk to you about a Duo Maxwell."

Hilde...

"Put her through."

"Yes, sir

"...Your silly Princess is dead..."

Relena stared hauntingly at the screen as Red Baron announced himself to the world. As he spoke his terrene unto them, Hell itself along with all its demons was being released upon them all.

"... So along with her, her legacy must die as well..."

Fear clouded her thoughts as Duo pushed her roughly underneath the chandelier. She could feel the glass cut into her arms as she lay down. She looked into his eyes and knew. They were too young to die. She had her kingdom, her family and he had his. Surely this could not have been. This could not be true.

"... And just as I spilt her blood amongst the rubble..."

Duo screamed as a piece of the ceiling fell on top of his back. It brought the bent metal and glass down into his skin. The force of the hit slammed his body down onto hers and made the glass go deeper into her arms. A thin trail of blood seeped out from under the sharp object on one of his arms to fall upon Relena's cheek.

"... I will release this society from the falseness and the shards of lies that she has planted all over this government..."

"Duo, promise me you won't die."

"You know me, Ojousan. I'm Death. Death can't die."

"...She gave you this Hell..."

I just want to see Heero again... I want to tell him how I feel...

"... And I will bring you Heaven!"

It was then that Heero stepped into view. And just as Duo gasped in shock, Relena screamed.

*Reread that line and think of Zechs. That should give some explanation for now, I'll clear it up better later.

Yes! I was actually able to write it! It's kind of short but it's ok, right? I wasn't able to clear up the 'Kitty' part yet. I have realized that will take a while so be patient.

I have been sick lately and I want to take this time to thank all the people that have been praying for me. I want to personally thank Rei for the wonderful cheerful emails. And Aris for putting up with me like I put up with her.

God Bless everybody who has put up with me this long. I love you all! Continue praying for me while I'm on the road to recovery.
