Meiran- many think she is a strong woman. The rest don't know who she is. That people have a general ignorance of her character is very sad, since she is the driving force behind Wufei's life.
Wufei was once simply a scholar boy who was married to Meiran against both of their wills- and believe you me, that's dangerous since both are so strong-willed. They clashed in basically everything- Meiran resenting Wufei for being so "weak" and scholarly; and Wufei considering her foolish for calling herself "Nataku."
When the Alliance attacks their colony, Meiran goes out to fight them in a suit that looks suspiciously like the Tallgeese. (Master O possibly copying off the original design? Hmmm?
The battle starts drifting towards the field full of flowers where Wufei often studied, and Meiran, out of concern for her husband's favorite place, takes the battle outside the colony.
As it is, she faces too many Leos, and Wufei, in the weaponless Shenlong, comes to save her. The lead Leo fires at the Shenlong, but Meiran rams it with the Tallgeese look-alike. Both suits are destroyed. Meiran is flung out of her suit and begs Wufei to take her back to the flower field she protected with her life.
Once there, Wufei admits that she's "stronger than anyone." They seem to come to terms so much so that they could have lived a very long, happy life together. But Meiran dies almost immediately after she earns Wufei's respect. One of the saddest love stories I know.
The rest everyone knows, Wufei names the Shenlong "Nataku" in honor of his deceased wife and takes up the cause of justice where she left off. Everything he did throughout the entire show was based on trying to prove himself worthy of being her husband.
