In the summer of A.C. 193, almost two years after she first saw Treize, Une had infiltrated OZ's ranks, so she would be able to assassinate General Catalonia. However, the general's life was claimed in a battle; Une's next mission was to kill the new head of OZ.
Even though, Treize Kushranada was Catalonia's second-in-command, many argued that the young man was not fit to lead, so the Romefeller Foundation chose the new commander. For security reasons, the chosen's name was not revealed to most of the troops, thus Une had no idea as to whom she would be "taking care of."
While on duty one night at the OZ headquarters, Une overheard two other female soldiers discussing the new leader. "Supposedly it's Colonel Septum."
"No, it's not. Septum wasn't the one I saw in the windows of the general's old quarters."
The two were silent for a moment before the first one hissed, "Well, then, who is it?"
"It looked like Treize Kushranada."
Une didn't hear the rest of the conversation. She was too swept up in her own cataclysmic thoughts. He made it. I didn't think that they would possibly agree on him. Now I have to kill him? I have to see him, just to make sure it is him. She glanced around briefly, before stealing through the shadows towards Treize's quarters.
Being a guard for OZ had its perks, because she knew exactly where security was lax. She made her way over to the large stone mansion that housed OZ's colonels and generals, clinging to the shadows. Looking up, she noticed that a window was open right above her head, so she hefted herself on to the window ledge and slipped, falling into the room.
Une landed in a tub full of water, right on top of the man she had come to see. Although, she had not expected him to be so... underdressed. Her cheeks flushed to a deep red. "I-I'm sorry." She pulled herself out of the tub and started for the door.
"Lady?"
Une slowly turned around at the summons, and recognition dawned in Treize's eyes. He smiled. "You're the one from the party. The one who disappeared. I never expected to see you again, let alone having you fall through my window into my bath."
"Well, I-"
The bathroom door burst open, and several soldiers stormed in and leveled their rifles at Une. A tall man strode in, one Captain Blake, and commanded his men to throw Une into the brig for being a spy.
Treize grabbed a towel, stood up, and demanded, "Why do you think she's a spy? Release her at once!"
Blake saluted- even though inwardly sneering about the new leader's bathing habits, for the sweet smell of roses hung in the air and clinged to Treize- and explained, "There have been rumors of a spy in our midst. She," he pointed to Une, "deserted her post and came here. She's obviously a spy or an assassin."
Une noticeably flinched.
Treize sighed and, as though he were speaking to a child, said, "The reason she left her post and came here was because I called her here. She is to be promoted to the rank of major and is to become my personal assistant."
"B-but, Colon-"
Treize raised a hand and ordered Blake to release his prisoner and cautioned him to have more reason to barge into his commanding officer's quarters next time. Blake stiffly left, obviously angry at having been rebuked by a man half his age.
When they were alone, Une hesitantly asked, "W-why d-did you...?"
Treize replied with a question of his own, "You are a spy, an assassin, correct?"
At Une's tentative nod, he continued, "You're wondering why I just covered your ass and promoted you to be my assistant, knowing that you have been hired to kill me." He watched her face and suddenly smiled. "You didn't know I was to be your target. You don't want to kill me." It was a statement, not a question.
Une stared at him in shock. "How did you-"
"We understand each other, my dear Lady- What is your name? I never learned it."
"Une. My name is Une."
"Une? Is that all?"
"It's all the name I've ever needed."
Treize regarded her in silence for a moment, before saying, "Yes, I believe it is. It suits you very nicely. Well, my dear Lady Une, I hope we shall be able to do much more ass covering in the future."
Une blinked several times. "What do you mean, sir?"
Treize smiled. "As my assistant, you will also be something of a bodyguard, so I hope you make a good one."
Une quickly nodded, finally understanding his words with mixed emotions. She suddenly remembered that she was soaked from falling into Treize's tub, and that he was clothed only in a towel about his waist.
To her utter surprise and embarrassment, Treize dropped his towel and reached for a robe, giving Une a very clear view of his well-muscled backside for a few moments. He turned back to her when his robe was tied and stated, "Since you are now a major, you won't be living in the barracks. There is an apartment down the hall which would be perfect for someone of your rank."
Une stared dumbfounded at her new superior, who could give orders in the nude and still be obeyed and respected.
"Well..."
Une blinked back to reality and stammered, "I-I'm sorry, Mr. Treize. Why am I moving into this building? I'm sure the officer's quarters aren't-"
Treize took her hand and pulled her near him. "You are my right hand. I need you near me at all times. Please, Lady, gather your things and bring them here."
Une slowly nodded- once again struck mute by his closeness- and swiftly walked away from Treize, although this time, she was returning.
