Ladies, take the stage and the art scene!

Concept:
"Ladies' Room" biedt een blik op de plannen die worden gesmeed in "damestoiletten", dromen en creaties, radicaal en subversief. Het woord "lady", zoals dat gebruikt wordt door DIY queer feministische festivals zoals "Ladyfest" en "Ladyspace", en ook door "Ladies' Room", omvat personen van alle mogelijke genders of geslachten. Ladies' Room wil een antiseksistische (sub)culturele omgeving creëren en de creatieve uitingen van ladies, grrrls en queers tonen in de vorm van bijvoorbeeld strips, tekeningen, zines en performances. Deelname van het publiek wordt aangemoedigd in de hoop dat de grens tussen "artiest" en "toeschouwer" zal vervagen.

Waaruit bestaat Ladies' Room?:
-een tentoonstelling met losse tekeningen, strips, flyers, linoprints, schilderijen, bedrukt stof (patches), handwerk, mode,...
-een workshop: hoe maak je een zine?
-een lees- en brei/haakhoekje
-een infotafel/kraampje met zines, strips, crafts, handwerk, juwelen, cassettes, buttons, kaartjes...
-performances/optredens: geïmproviseerde jam sessie,...
-DIY now! kunst: blanco papier voor bezoekersters om op te tekenen, schilderen, schrijven en daarna op te hangen... onder het mom "iedereen is kunstenares!"
-...

Concept:
"Ladies' Room" offers a view on the plans made in the "toilets for women", dreams and creations, radical en subversive. The word "lady", as it's being used by DIY queer feminist festivals such as "Ladyfest" and "Ladyspace", and also by "Ladies' Room", can include people of all genders. Ladies' Room wants to build an anti-sexist (sub)cultural community and show the artistic creations of ladies, grrrls en queers, for example comics, drawings, zines and performances. Participation of the audience is encouraged to erase the distinction between "artist" and "audience".

What is the Ladies' Room?:
-an exhibition with drawings, comics, flyers, lino prints, paintings, patches, crafts, clothes,...
-a workshop: how to make a zine?
-a reading and crocheting/knitting corner
-an infotable/distro with zines, strips, crafts, jewelry, tapes, buttons, cards...
-performances/shows: improvised jam session...
-DIY now! art: empty paper for visitors to draw, paint or write on and exhibit... "everyone is an artist!"
-...

TENTOONSTELLING (permanent tijdens de 3 dagen)
-Coline Van Acker:
Kleding and beelden
"De draad verwisselt van gedaante; de draad bouwt; de draad omarmt; de sublieme draad. De draad transformeert de waarde van dingen. Het kan de stijl belichamen, of de identiteit van het subject veranderen. Het is tegelijkertijd het reële en het imaginaire, het schrijft een proces voor." Lin Tian Anamiao. Kleding, drager van boodschappen, van angsten, van pain, van plezier,... Overlevend lichaam, veranderend lichaam. Uitstrekking van stilisme naar een hedendaags werk waarbij de kleding wordt uitgedrukt als een middel van expressie. Een universum doordrongen van artiesten zoals: Comme Des Garçons, Leigh Bowery, Enki Bilal, Mark Ryden, Sylvia Plath, Poppy Z Brite, CRASS,... Mijn persoonlijk werk wordt getoond tijdens tentoonstelling en in accessoires die verkocht worden in winkels onder de naam Strawberry Girl, Coma Girl.

Tekeningen en strips meestal in zwart/wit, geïnspireerd door DIY zines, grafische romans, dada, craft, queer theorie, anarcha-feminisme en riot grrrl. Klik hier voor afbeeldingen.

De geheimen van het maken van (fan)zines (= DIY zelfgemaakte low-budget maar ultracoole boekjes) zullen onthuld worden en je krijgt de kans om zelf mee te werken aan een zine! Neem alvast een kijkje hier.

-gezellig hoekje om zines te lezen, te haken, breien, praten, muziek te spelen,...

Clothes and pictures
"The thread changes shape; thread build; the thread clasps; the thread sublime. The thread transforms the value of things. It can incarnate the style, or change the identity of the subject. It is at the same time the real and the imaginary, it imposes a process." Lin Tian Anamiao. Clothes messenger of messages, of anxiety, of pain, of joy,... Body in survival, body's changing. Extension of fashion design to a contemporary work where the clothes expressed as an expressive way. My influences are artists like: Comme Des Garçons, Leigh Bowery, Enki Bilal, Mark Ryden, Sylvia Plath, Poppy Z Brite, CRASS,... My personal work is showed during exibitions and declined in accessories, sold in several shops under the name Strawberry Girl, Coma Girl.
