Exescope is a program that allows you to open up and view the structure of any executable file. The ones that we are particularly interested in are the ".ocx" executables used for our gameboards. Within each .OCX is the image of the board that is displayed in the chat room when we start a game.

By using the IMPORT function

we can replace the existing IDG_GAMEGROUP image

with one of our choice.

Use EDIT to SAVE the UPDATE

Once saved, close Exescope and open up your new gameboard in VPlaces.

So if you are ready click to download this zipped EXESCOPE file. Unzip exescope.zip into it's own folder and have fun making your own boards!!!

Mesa and AnDee from the BOARDello made the "Invisible Boards" by carefully modifying the original "ocx" files. I have placed them here for your convenience.
To use:

  1. Download the zipped files.
  2. Unzip into a folder of their own.
  3. Use EXESCOPE to modify the image.
  4. Rename the ocx files to Old_???.ocx
which are located in your Program Files/vplaces/games folder.
    • Bkg.ocx to Old_Bkg.ocx for Backgammon
    • Btl.ocx to Old_Btl.ocx for Battleship
    • Chs.ocx to Old_Chs.ocx for Chess
    • Ckr.ocx to Old_Ckr.ocx for Checkers
    • Ytz.ocx to Old_Ytz.ocx for Yahtzee
  5. Once the Old_???.ocx exists you may then copy the new Invisible Bkg.ocx (and any of the other game .ocx) into the Program Files/vplaces/games folder.
  6. Now for the final step to make it all work. Drag the invisible Bkg.ocx onto the top of Regsvr32.exe then release. You get a cute little message that says you have been successful. Regsvr32 is located in the vplaces/games folder. And you will need to do this but ONCE for EACH of the games that you wish to use in the invisible mode.
  7. Click to download:
