A Summary of Mirai and Bright's Relationship in Char's Counterattack
The funny thing about Char's Counterattack is that Mirai and Bright don't actually have any scenes together. He is onboard the ship Ra Calium, commanding the Londo Bell Fleet, whereas she is stuck in Hong Kong with Hathaway and Cheimin. With the impending danger on Earth, Bright's sends Mirai space shuttle tickets, and even has an admiral sign a letter of recommention so they may catch the first shuttle to space. However, Quess Paraya and her father (the minster of the Earth Federation) decide that they want to get on the shuttle at the last minute, which only leaves one seat. Mirai decides to send Hathaway, because he's now 13 years old and should be able to take care of himself.
Bright is surprised to find that only Hathaway ended up coming to to join him. Hathaway takes an insant liking to Quess, much to his father's disapointment. Quess even calls him to set up a "date" with Hathaway!
A bunch of important plot stuff happens, but to make a long story short, Cameron (yes, the Cameron that was engaged to Mirai back in
MSG) was at the confrence and figured out Char wanted to drop Axis on the Earth. Cameron immediately goes to tell Bright. Their conversations are quite awkward, (well, Bright did marry Cameron's ex-fiancée), but they both argee that Char must be stopped (of course! Mirai's still on Earth!).  Meanwhile, Mirai and Cheimin are still trying to get to space.
Bright tells Hathaway to stay with Cameron, but Hathaway pretends to cry (Cameron said that he got that from his mother; neither of the two men knew Hathaway was faking) and sneaks back onboard the
Ra Calium. Of course, he is found and his father performs the traditional "Bright Slap" ("How would her mother and sister feel if you died?").
Hathaway wins the award for being the most disobedient child of two main characters in an anime show.  After being allowed to stay on the bridge with his father, he sneaks off again, only this time into battle. He goes to find Quess, who is killed by Chan Agi. Hathaway, in turn, kills Chan. He feels that he was connected to Quess, and killed Chan to avenge her death. (The connection is that they're both Newtypes).
Of course, in the end, Earth is saved. Mirai and Cheimin can see Axis blow up. And that's like the end. We're left to assume that both Amuro Ray and Char Aznable are dead and that Mirai and Cheimin join Bright in Side 1 in the following days.
