Mirai and Bright's Relationship in the novel version of Mobile Suit Gundam
The three part (or volume) novel version of Mobile Suit Gundam is actually very vague on Mirai and Bright's relationship. There is the occsional "Are you all right?" or a pat on the shoulder from Bright, but mostly, the novel focus on Newtypes and whatnot. Their romance is brushed totally aside, and almost all the original characterization is gone.
However, there is one important scene relating to the two, which I will retype here:

Bright, in an admonishing tone, said, "
Mister Sleggar Law, mind your manners, please. You'll be a bad influence on the lad [Amuro]."
"Er, sorry, sir." Sleggar looked sheepish when he said this, but still, when everyone had filed out of the room except himseld, Bright, and Mirai, he had the temerity to turn to Mirai and brazenly inquire, "Well, ehem, in that case, what about you, madamoiselle? Free tonight?"
"Unfortunately for you, sir," she answered curtly, "the answer's an emphatic
no." (Mobile Suit Gundam, republished version, page 260).

In the novel version, Mirai does not have any infatution with Sleggar (thank god), and there is no Cameron. Anyway, the scene continues (after skipping a few unimportant lines that I am too lazy to retype):

Sleggar glanced quizzically at his superior and shrugged his shoulders. Then he finally stood up and left Bright and Mirai alone in the room seated together on the sofa.
"Can you get some rest, skipper?" Mirai asked.
"I hope so. I'm off duty at one o'clock," he answered.
Mirai made attempt to leave. Bright looked at her and said nothing. He knew it might be their last change to relax together like this.
"Something you wanted to tell me?" she asked.
"No. I just wanted the chance to look at you a little. You don't mind do you?"
"No, but it makes me feel a little awkward. You want to talk?"
"Not particularly. I'm worried about out mission, but there's nothing unusual about that. I just hope  everything goes the way it's supposed to. You know, I kind of appreciated the way the crew all gathered together here earlier. Something about it made me feel a little calmer."
"Everybody's used to the way things work around here now."
Bright toyed with the idea of asking Mirai to sleep with him but decided not to. It didn't seem right in thier present situation, and the last thing he wanted to do was complicate things before they went into combat. And Mirai clearly felt the same. A feeling of peace came over both of them, and for several minutes they said nothing, merely enjoying each other's presence.
"Maybe when the campaign's over," Mirai said, in her only hint of intimacy, "we could put some pictures on the wall in this room. I'll buy some for you..."
"A good idea," he replied. "It does look a little barren in here..." (
Mobile Suit Gundam, republished version, page 261).
