Greetings lovely ladies! After way to long of a delay , Tea and Toast, is back on track! There's big news for the Lady's Tea Society and wonderful things in the works!
Announcements
We have wonderful news! Many of you are aware of this already, but for those of you who aren't, the Lady's Tea Society has been chosen as the formal Tea Society for VELL, The Victorian and Edwardian Ladies League!! I believe this means wonderful things for both groups! The LTS has already experienced an upsurge in membership owing to this new relationship. Please take the time and visit our friends at VELL, http://www.cybcon.com/~toad/vell/vell.htm , I think you'll love what you find! Also visit http://www.cybcon.com/~toad/vell/ltsinfo.htm for more information on how this all came to be. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new members, those of you who have joined us via VELL and those of you who have come to us in other ways. We are glad you've found us and looking forward to long and rewarding friendships!

Web News
Thanks to Lady Ellen Elizabeth for the idea, you are all cordially invited to join us every Thursday afternoon at 2:00 for an Afternoon Tea Chat! So brew a cup of tea and come on over and get acquainted! You must be a member of the mail list , Teandtoast, to join in the fun! This is a low volume mail list but if you have no time for the email, you may join, set your settings on "no mail" and still come and chat . We really would love to see you on the mail list though! the chat room is private for members of Teandtoast only and you are free to use it anytime. There has been some concern expressed about joining onelist because they do ask some personal questions (name , state and zip code, etc). What you may not know is that there is a setting you can use so that none of these things are displayed to the general public. I have been a member of onelist (now egroups) for a year now and have not had a single problem. I believe that we should all be security conscious but I did want to pass that on to you.

I have been working on the website and have added a page , and some new graphics to the old ones. I hope you'll stop by and have a stroll through one day soon!
I would like to include a list of Members website on the LTS site. If you would like to have your site included please email your web address and Lady name .
Due to the increase of requests for information about starting Local Chapters of LTS, a page defining the role of Tea Coordinator and offering some hints on getting started has been added . I encourage everyone to go and have a look . Please feel free to email me with your comments and suggestions. Your input is always welcome! We also have another option for those of you who might already have a Victorian Society or Tea Group !

Victorian Pursuits: Ribbonry
The
Victorians are well known for their penchant for embellishment.
More was better and this was reflected in their personal dress
often by the addtion of frills ,lace , ribbon embroidery and
flowers! Be decked and beribboned , a Victorian lady's clothing
spoke of her love for grace and beauty.
It is easy to add these lovely touches to today's wardrobe and
too lovely Victorian costumes , as well! I was quite pleasantly
surprise when I began working with ribbon how simply the work is
and what a lovely effect it adds to wardrobe and home.
For ribbon embroidery ,I recommend you work with good quality
silk. There is really no substitute! With the smallest repertoire
of embroidery stitches you can add lovely effects to anything!
For the beginner , there are books available with iron on
patterns and simple instructions to get you started. My favorite
of these is Ribbon Embroidery by J. Marsha Michler (Dover
Books).
To create wonderful flowers to be sewn on clothing , for hats or
to be made into brooches, I reccommend that you use a good
quality French rayon ribbon. Craft ribbon is good for practice
and works for some decorative items but does not launder well.
Silk is lovely, but in these wider widths, expensive. Good French
rayon works up wonderfully! Two wonderful instruction books are:The
Artful Ribbon by Candace King andThe Secrets of Fashioning
Ribbon Flowers by
Helen Gibb.
If you haven't already ventured into the beautiful world of
ribbonry, I hope you will give it a try and share with the group
what you've created!

Odds and the End
It's been a busy and exciting time at LTS lately! New Chapters are forming rapidly and there is much going on! I am still looking for help in making all the features of LTS successful and interesting for our members. I encourage members to submit articles for the newsletter, book reviews and tea room information for the website. Please email if you have questions or contributions. Also, from time to time , it would be truly lovely to have some HTML help so if any of you have expertise in that area and would volunteer a bit of time, Please contact me!
Wishing you a very Victorian Day!
