The original American poster (above), obviously playing to the sexual market, but since this is Ken Russell I suppose that's to be expected. Rather nasty choice of background. Note that in later merchandising (such as the US video/DVD cover shown below left) Hugh Grant's face has been added for extra sales appeal - upon first release he was a complete unknown and did not warrant inclusion. Sex appeal, however, appears to be a constant draw. |

The
logo given on both the US poster and most recent video/DVD cover (left)
is different to the one used in the film's credit, which only appears
to have been used on the cover of the UK video release (below left
and right), and even then just for the word 'Lair' (right).

Interestingly, the British version had a reversible cover, and although both feature a picture of Amanda Donohoe they are clearly geared towards promoting the horror aspects. This may well have had an influence on the poor sales that led to it being deleted less than a year and a half after being released - well, that and the fact that the red cover is, frankly, vile. |
