We all know it started with Darla, who sired Angel, in a dusty Irish alley way, she did as he asked, showed him her world.
And everyone knows that Angel sired Dru, obsessing, killing her loved ones and then turning her.

But the real question is, Who sired Spike? It all depends on who you listen to, or whatever mood Joss happens to be in.

For example if you go strictly by what the shows (BtVS & A;tS) say, then Angelus sired Spike. In at least two episodes, School Hard and Into the Dark, Spike referred to Angel as being his sire.

However in quite a few interviews Joss himself says that Drusilla sired Spike. And that the reason Spike refers to Angel as being his sire is because Angel is Dru's sire, thus being Spike's grandsire.

HUH???

Exactly. Well, here are a few Spike fan opinions on the sire issue. Feel free to send me your opinion~ Email me.

New Info on the Sire front. Apparently at the Nocturnal 2K convention the sire question was brought up and it seems that Joss may be changing his story again. According to several different people on several different EGROUPS I'm in, it was said that now they are going with the story that Angelus sired Spike. Speculation is because (Juliet)Drusilla won't be back. I guess we'll have to wait until next season. NEW- Rumors floating around say Juliet will be back for a couple of episodes next season.

Lanie:In my most humble opinion, I am going with the thought that Angelus sired Spike, I like it and I'm sticking to it. It makes the story between Drusilla and Spike so much more interesting. Spike's devotion is that of love, demented, but love none the less. And also it makes the hatred between Spike and Angel more interesting too, the deep loathing isn't just about a girl. But as we all know Joss has a habit of constantly changing what he says or means so I'll stick to what the show says, even if the show changes it's view in the future, does any of this make sense?

-SuN-: I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY! (as always) I was reading a Sci Fi transcript for Spike on one of my many hour searches for things to put on websites and found this thing where Joss said..

which can be found at ETOnline

So... I personally would like it to be Angelus (otherwise it fucks up everything in my Eden, The Dream novella! Not that I would mind redoing the "William becoming Spike" story.. But STILL!) But... It being Drusilla is good to.. Because it shows they have a much bigger History and would be Dru who chose him. And I like the thought of Dru being in Control... She's so great.. Uhmm. Yeah, I don't say THAT enough..

Little Pinky:Okay, I'm choosing to ignore that comment, Joss.... *pinky remains standing, waving her little "ASS Brigade" banner* I firmly believe that Angel sired Spike, and that he really is around 200 like Giles' books said in "School Hard". So there. :o)

Bern: I think Angelus sired Dru and then dumped her...him being the original Big Evil Bastard that he is...so Spike decided to take care of her, 'cause you know Spike is just so sweet like that. Can we go with awww? And if Angelus didn't sire Spike, then how come Spike called Angel his sire? It defies all logic. But then again, the total enigma that is Joss's screwed up brain defies all logic...hehe

Sunshine:Well, it should be Angelus who sired them both 'cause it just should be that way. I remember listening to this radio interview with James and Juliet on-line and I think they said that Drusilla had seen William one night and said that she wanted him. Something like that. So maybe she sired him, it would explain the devotion Spike has for her but still I want Angelus to be their Sire. Makes it more erotic.

Shele: If you ask me, and nobody did, referring to him as 'Yoda' places Angel in the role of teacher, not biological sire. And, when you think about it, if Dru were to have turned Spike, someone else would have had to teach Spike the tricks of the trade -- Dru is sorely lacking in lucidity for that kind of effort. So my belief is that Dru made Spike a vampire, but Angel is the one who taught him *how* to be a vampire. The relationship between Spike and Dru is very similar to that between Dru and Angelus, isn't it? The obsessor and the obsessee. No doubt there are true feelings of love, but that bond rises above all. The tie between Spike and Angel looks more like that of a student who's realized they'll never meet the teacher's expectations, but can't stop wanting that approval and respect.

Elisabeth: I always thought it was Angelus too. But I know there is a lot of confusion about it. Anyway, I know many things say different things and i would like to add to the confusion. In the book- City of Angel - (the first Angel book) it makes it sound like Dru sired him. but on the show it makes it sound like Angelus did. so i don't think we will ever know for sure and i just wanted to say something about the book.

Martin:I think, despite what Spike says in "School Hard", he was sired by Drusilla. First, I know that Spike is around 126 years old, so Drusilla was sired before him. Second, he referrs to him as "your sire" not "our sire" in "what's my line". Thirdly, there was that thing in "Lie to Me" where we found out about Drusilla - if Angel was Spike's sire it would have said that as well, and surely Giles would have found that out while researching about Spike.
Nancy Holder in her books seems to think that Angel is Spike's grandsire.

Rona: Just thought i'd let you in on this intresting opinion, which is meant to be true. Seemingly, Drusilla bit Spike, and left him to die, but Angel brought him back. That, or Angel's his grand sire.
