1.         LISA “LEFT EYE” LOPES

Most of you already know this.  I just can’t believe that the music industry has lost another one of its own – Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.  Condolences to those who are grieving this multi-talented and controversial artist.

STATEMENT FROM BILL DIGGINS, PRESIDENT DIGGIT ENTERTAINMENT
On behalf of TLC

New York, NY - Friday April 26, 2002 - It is with profound sadness and shock that I learned late last night of the tragic death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Lisa was killed in a car accident while on vacation in Honduras, in Central America.

Her fellow band members and lifelong friends Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas are devastated by the tragic news. "We had all grown up together and were as close as a family. Today we have truly lost our sister."

The three of them had only recently been in the studio working on their new record - due to be released this summer.  Lisa had a tremendous spirit and loved making music. Her unique talents will be a great loss to the music industry.  We all loved Lisa very much: our hearts go out to her family, and our prayers are with them at this tragic time. - Diggit Entertainment.

3.         JULLY BLACK SIGNS MAJOR DEAL

Excerpt from www.hiphopcanada.com -
Rhythm and Blues diva, Jully Black has finally been given the opportunity she undoubtedly worked so hard to achieve. Last week, she signed a worldwide recording deal with MCA Records in the United States, which links her directly through Universal Music in Canada.  Jully Black has made a name for herself over the last few years especially by working heavily with Toronto based rappers, Saukrates, Solitaire, Choclair and her new label mate, Kardinal Offishall. The record she dropped for Baby Blue Soundcrew was nominated as best R&B recording in 2000 - 2001 and she received a Juno nomination in '98 for her critically acclaimed Rally'n' which earned her enough attention down south. She hasn't done much solo work since then so this contract will allow her to pursue a more personal musical vision.

5.         SOUL FOOD PARTY AT MUSE

The cast from SOUL FOOD* had a party at Muse Bistro last week to celebrate with winners of a contest run in America.  Winners went on the set of Soul Food earlier in the day and were treated to a dinner with the entire cast at Muse Bistro, 369 King Street West.  They were facilitated with a big screen television where they got to see the first episode in the series second season.  Check out some of the other celebrities who were in attendance in my PHOTO GALLERY.

*Based on the critically acclaimed film from writer/director George Tillman, Jr., the series SOUL FOOD takes an honest, touching look at tradition and family life through the trials and tribulations of a tight-knit African American family living in Chicago.  Although the series is shot in Toronto, viewers can only see the series if they have a satellite.

10.       MUSIC LOWDOWN – MONDAY, MAY 6

I really recommend that artists (especially if you are starting out) check this out!!  You’ll get to schmooze with some of the top industry professionals for the mere cost of $7.00.  Music Journalist Karen Bliss and talent booker Andrea Caldwell (The Reverb/Holy Joe's) present the thirteenth "Music Lowdown," at The Kathedral.   The event features intimate one-on-one opportunities with music industry experts followed by a showcase by an A-level up-and-coming act.  The idea of the "Music Lowdown" portion is to provide an unintimidating atmosphere, at which artists and those wishing to get into the music business can talk with industry professionals in a comfortable club setting. Unlike most music conferences, where people must get up in front of a huge crowd, walk to the microphone and ask the powers that be perched up on the stage a question, here they do it in a private one-on-one set up.
