Update on Tori and her Pups
~Start to finish~

Many may wonder why a page dedicated to the breeding of a dog?
When this is a first for me and for many so I just thought I would share what happens
This is a breeding of my bitch to my male but the difference is my male "Charlie" is 14 yrs old and lives in Ca with his co-owners Chuck and Adelle
and I am using his frozen sperm to inseminate Tori, with the help of my vet, a specialty vet in Portland and International Canine Semen Bank, and Dr. Carroll Platt who works with them. This will not be anything formal. just my ramblings

All pups from Charlie and Tori are SOLD

  • Thursday-May 18, 2000
Tori's first day of heat, starting bleeding.
  • Friday-May 19, 2000
Called Carroll Platt with ICSB, to inform them Tori was in heat and we would be needing their assistence.
Carroll went thru an extensive explanation of the proceedure to me.
  • Wed-May 24, 2000 I took Tori in to have her first in a group of "progesteron" test run (these are blood tests")

  • AM Thur-May 25, 2000 I took Tori back in for a second blood test
  • PM-got results of first test Tori is at 0.8..........so I called Carroll to tell him the news, he said that is good with the holiday coming up and labs and vets being closed. He said Tori will need to be about 5.0 to do the surgical implant.and under normal circumstances that will be tuesday or wenesday of next week and hopefully not before.
  • we have another test scheduled for Sat at the Portland Vet, since my vet won't have a lab pickup on Sat...I called the lab to see if I could call Tuesday morning for results instead of waiting for it to be fax in the afternoon..They said yes.....I was a happy camper again.......
  • Friday May 26, 2000 pm Tori's 2nd test results in at 0.4 so she is on schedule for her pre-ovulation, Saturdays test has been cancelled..so next test will be Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at 9am. Acording to my vet and Carroll looks like if things go right she won't be ready till later next week but Tuesdays test will give us the story.....Have a safe weekend..........
  • Tuesday May 30, 2000, 9am took another blood test, should be able to call for results later, I hope.
  • Wed May 31st 2:15 pm, called lab results are in testing as I type, results may be ready in 2 hrs.
I could see where living in a big city could help doing all this but having to go between states is the pits(no pun inteneded), my vet and I are in wa. the lab is in oregon and the vet and icsb doing surgical implant are in oregon,,,a two hour drive for Tori and I...so still waiting :O(
  • 4pm 5-31-00, well Tori test is in she was 1.3 on Tuesday so another test tomorrow with results on Friday and Carroll says she could move faster now, well one thing you really new to do this is a strong set of nerves :O) my are shot! the weekend is coming up again and this could be a problem. .......more tomorrow

  • 9am 6-2-00 Took Tori in for another test, because of the weekend coming up, this test had to go to the hospital lab here in town, since Thursdays test was 3.0, so yours truly got to play messenger and deliver it myself to the hospital in town, will get results tommorrow morning. oh just for anyone wondering my costs so far have been $60.00 a test or $300.00
  • 6-3-00 10:00am, Tori's results from the hospital is "5.0" for friday whippy!!! the surgery is schedule two days later of Sunday the 4th at 8:45am. The surgery takes approx. one hour and then she will have to come out of the anesthesia. so will update you after I get home sunday. The surgery is $190 plus $90.00 for ICSB so that is $280 more for a total of $580 so far.....see Ya sunday
  • Sunday 6/4 8:45 Arrived at Gresham Animal Hospital spoke with Dr Chris Houstein and chuck Murray, we did paperwork and Doc examined Tori, she weights 57LBS.........12:30pm picked Tori still droggy but is doing well has disolvable stitches and must stay down for 3 or 4 days.........it will be awhile be for I update any more but I am planing on having a sonagram done.........Hope for puppys :O) Tori's due date is around aug 7th
  • 6/15/2000-Playing with my new Camera Pictures of Tori, she has always been a big ham!
  • 7/18/00-Tori is doing fine, she went to the vet Today for a check up, seems she has a slight inter-ear infection which is putting a slight tilt on her out look on life(sic joke, her head is slightly tilted to one side).........otherwise everything is fine....
  • Well!!!! today is the big day Aug 7th, 2000 and guess what we have no pups :O( What does this mean it means some testing for Tori and then we do it again her next heat, lesson here, the best planed things don't always work out but things happen for a reason, so we will just try again!
