Roody and Sable: Roody and Sable had 2 litters. The first was 4 pups born September 25, 2004 (3 black males and 1 black female). The second was 5 pups(born 11/3/04 3 black males, 2 black females). They've never lost a pup. The daughter from Sables first litter helped her raise the second. I retired this pair because they could only have bibless and bibbed black pups and these are harder to find homes for.
Sable- aa CC ee GG Pp
Nutmeg female
Sable's father was black, her mother, an Argente nutmeg. I picked her out because she was such an outgoing gerbil. She always wants to be held, and prefers to sit on a shoulder then running around a surface. The friendliest gerbil I've ever had, but a master escape artist- working constantly to pop lids loose for a free run around the house- I placed her in a 55 gallon tall to eliminate this problem and she escaped 2x from it(my only gerbil that escapes). As soon as I enter the room she's jumping up and down, the problem is if I don't let her out she keeps doing it the entire time I'm in the room, or just outside it. But she's a good mom and goes back to her babies soon as they start squeaking. She is now living with her eldest daughter, Nera
Roody- aa chch EE Gg PP
DTW male
Roody was bought from a petco for 12.99, he had great full whiskers and beautiful eyes. He was alone, bit everyones hand, younger then 5 weeks and didn't move much. He was originally called Rudolf because of his big red nose, and then nicknamed Roody because he was so small. His nose healed completely in a couple days at home. Since buying him he has become very active, grown a lot (but still slim, with minimal bulk in front), developed a very dark tail, and become very gentle (stopped nipping after a week at home). He enjoys being picked up, but is more cautious about riding on a hand then Sable, or gerbils raised by breeders. He builds huge nests, and his favorite occupation is chewing.
BL and Speedy: First breeding pair. I did everything wrong for this litter, but all 7 pups from the first litter and 10 from the second survived. 1996. BL was a bibbed black, Speed a Golden agouti, they only had agouti, black and R/PEW pups, genetics are an enigma.
Black Lightning- aa Cch E- GG Pp
Black Female
Miracle mom bought from petworld. Loving, gentle gerbil.
Speedy- Aa Cch EE Gg Pp
Agouti male
Speedy was obtained from a friend of mine who had let speedy father two other litters. Speedy was a friendly, experienced male who lived 6 years and 4 months (longest of any of my gerbils). He outlived most of his pups, and was nearly 3 when he had them. Originally paired with Vixie, a black female, daughter of Jessica, also black.

Safe Foods
Picture above- Taffy and Fate at five weeks. Fate was actually the larger pup but looks smaller in the picture.
Romeo- Was the first at everything. He was the first pup to crawl out of the nest after mom at just a week old. He was always running around when I came in the room, mom couldn't keep him still. (I knew it was him because he is the only one with thick white paw coloring). He was the first to open his eyes(3days before the rest), first to eat solid food, crack a sunflower, drink from the waterbottle, the first to learn to use the tube set, able to jump vertically at 3 weeks of age, up the tubes, and go down without fear. It took his siblings 2 weeks longer. He is the only one in the family (besides dad) that can jump out of the cage. He's very cocky, and not afraid of anything- jumped at my cat once. If he can he'll take nose dives off surfaces if he thinks I'm not looking. Now he's always the first to jump on my hand to leave the cage, first to notice new things in the cage and figure out how they work. He's the dominant gerbil. At 4 weeks of age he would build his own nest fall asleep and the rest of the family would move to his nest to sleep and abandon their old one. Separated him from dad and brothers for 4 days, and was able to put him back in immediately- as if they didn't notice he was gone.
He's a very good dad and loves wrestling with his pups, he's now living with 3 of his sons (Jumbo, Romeo and Flick) in a 55 gallon tanke with tubes leading to his 5 gallon sleeping tank.Pictured above at 6 months old
