The adoption fee goes towards bedding, food, toy expenses and housing rescues. This price also insures the pups won't end up as feeders. |
Adoption fee is 7$ per pup regardless of gender or color. If you wish to adopt a clan of 4 or more male gerbils, the adoption fee is 5$ each. Older pups(12 weeks- 28 weeks) are 6$ each. All female pups must be adopted out in pairs or trio's. Rescues and older gerbils are free too a good home. A breeding pair is 15$- if I am sure that you will be a responsible breeder |
I only sell single pups if you plan to introduce the pup to another using the split cage method. Please remember it isn't safe to breed gerbils younger then 2 months of age, if possible. |
I can also buy a complete tank set up ahead of time for you for 5$ extra cost plus cost of materials I buy. Some tank supplies to consider... Tank- I recommend at least a 20 gallon or more but 10 gallon is alright (absolute minimum for 2 gerbils) if you don't have enough room. I've found many used 20 gallon tanks for cheap prices at Fish stores. Lid- Needs to be secure, but allow air circulation(Not lids meant for fish tanks that are completely sealed). Mesh lids, lids with clips, and lids that allow tubes can be bought at most petstores. Food- Encore, Kaytee. Timothy/Alfalfa hay, Monkey Chow. Veggies and fruits (no more then 2x a week) Waterbottle- and holder (so gerbils can't chew holes in the waterbottle and make it leak). Empty and refill water bottle once its 2/3 empty. Check nozzle frequentley to be sure its not jammed Litter- Corncob, Aspen, Hemp, shredded inkless paper. DO NOT use cedar shavings. Pine Shavings- Causes respiratory problems in some gerbils and especially pups, due to a genetic defect common in many gerbils and nearly all pet store gerbils. Our gerbils don't carry this genetic defect, though it is always possible it could show up in a pup living on pine shavings. I switched to corncob in 2004, since it's better safe then sorry. If you are going to use Kiln Dried pine shavings let them air out before you use them as litter. Bedding- Carefresh, shredded toilet paper, shredded paper towels, shredded unscented tissues (work best) Chew toys- Tree branches (maple, fruit tree, birch, beech, haze, willow NO PINE), paper towel/toilet paper rolls, cardboard boxes (ie: kleenex boxes, ramen boxes, shoe boxes, food boxes- if no chemicals and wax), wood (nothing treated or finished), manilla folders, store sold wooden logs/treasure chests, paper bags, paper plates Toys- Jars (empty coffee jars, pasta sauce jars- gerbils favorites), wheel, rolling ball, large marbles Tubes- Great exercise and fun for gerbil- be sure the plastic isn't chewed and ingested Cage decorations- Rocks, stones (after they've been cleaned), glazed figurines (nothing plastic) Food dish- optional. keeps food together from getting lost, or gerbils can scavange for food in their litter Houses- clay/terecotta plant pots, cardboard, store bought wooden house, hollowed out coconut shells Levels- gerbils love levels- ramps, mazes, tunnels, bridges, stairs are all great out of cardboard, or bird toys, Bathing- Chinchilla bath sand(not Chinchilla dust) in a fish bowl, or small cardboard container. Place in cage for 5-10 minutes and then remove before gerbils decide to use it as a bathroom. I've heard you can mix bird sand with the chinchilla sand for cheaper baths. Child safe glue or aquarium sealant can be used to attach objects (ie: wood pieces, 2 jars) together. Make sure your gerbils get out of the tank time too.(Exercise pens work well, or a supervised free run) If there's a tank supply you use and it's not on the list, let me know.
