How Much More?

By Brit

How much more can a heart withstand

as home is torn away

A father's voice is silenced, stilled

years amassed within one day

How much more can a heart withstand

as illusions are broken and torn

By the madness of one man's rage

bitterness is born

How much more can a heart withstand

as love is unjustly slain

False revenge steals tender love

bartering hope for searing pain

How much more can a heart withstand

as bond is hidden from sight

Desperation drives the heart to hunt

and compels the soul to fight

How much more can a heart withstand

as right has lost its way

Dreams have died in a broken heart

that's forgotten how to pray

How much more can a heart withstand

anger silences what is heard

Promises meant as eternal bonds

are lost with bitter words

How much more can a heart withstand

voracity exacts its due

May the bond yet keep the hope alive

until his life is through
