I would love to write a story myself, but don't have a lot
of extra time, so I would like to present my thoughts to you and see if someone
(I would, of course, prefer Brit, but all the authors are wonderful) would be
interested in writing the story.
Here's what I think happened to the boys. Starsky was not able to return to work the
beat with Hutch after his long recovery from being shot. He was put behind a desk. Hutch refused to work with another partner,
so he was also banished to desk work.
They both tried this for close to a year, but couldn't handle it, so
Starsky decided he was going to move back East and try a different career. Hutch, of course, soon followed. Starsky found his niche in real estate
development (vis a vis "The Heroes") and Hutch continued his
education and became a prosecuting attorney.
The pair remain as close as ever, even though they have separate careers,
and Hutch often turns to Starsky for insight on cases he's working on.
As far as their personal lives go, Hutch married a beautiful
woman who I've named Dorthea about 15 years ago, but, she, unfortunately,
passed away two years ago from a terminal illness. Starsky, of course, saw Hutch through her death and took him under
his wing. Hutch and Dorthea had a son
shortly after being married, named David Kenneth Hutchinson, but the baby died
of crib death before he was even a year old.
I don't know why I feel compelled to have Hutch suffer so much. It just seems like misery follows him.
Things are looking up for him, however, as he has met a
young (about 30), beautiful police detective named Meredith, who drives a classic
Mustang, painted red and white (and which, by the way, she drives too
fast). She is a tough detective, very
dedicated to her work, with tons of curly hair and brightly colored eyes. She is fun-loving and sort of childlike,
but, again, a very tough cop. Hutch feels
an instant attraction to her, feels like he's known her most of his life and
that she reminds him of someone he knows, but he can't quite figure out
who. (We, of course, all know who it
is.) Starsky thinks Meredith is
absolutely wonderful.
Dear old Starsk is married to Stephanie, whom he met while
attending real estate classes. The two
married shortly after Hutch married Dorthea, and they have two children,
Kenneth David Starsky, 13, and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rose Starsky, 5. Stephanie and David have their own real
estate firm and are doing quite well financially, as is Hutch. Starsky hasn't changed. Stephanie is more on
the serious side and very intelligent.
She is, however, very likable.
She has blond hair and blue eyes and reminds Starsky of someone he
knows, but he can't quite put his finger on who it is. (We, of course, all know who that is as
well.)
Kenneth and Lizzie both look like and act like their
dad. Kenny loves to hear old stories
about his father and Uncle Hutch when they were on the police force and wants
to become a policeman when he grows up.
Lizzie is a precocious little girl with a kind heart and a love of
life. Hutch loves Starsky's children as
if they were his own and they refer to him as "Uncle Hutch."
Stephanie is having a difficult time getting used to
Meredith. She doesn't totally dislike
her, but thinks Hutch should find someone closer to his own age and someone who
is more settled--someone more like Dorthea.
Stephanie loves Hutch almost as much as Starsky does and has accepted
the fact that the two come together as a set and probably will remain together
for the rest of their lives.
Now to the plot, and this is where the author will have to
take creative control. Hutch is working
on a difficult case and Starsky is unofficially helping him. Hutch is somehow put in danger and Starsky,
with help from Meredith, saves the day, just like old times. I see Starsky
getting hurt saving Hutch, although not seriously, which, of course, frightens
Stephanie and there's a fight between Stephanie and Hutch, where she tells him
just what she thinks of Meredith. It
all gets worked out in the end, however, and I would like the story to end with
Hutch and Meredith getting married and the two guys finally figuring out who
their wives remind them of--each other.
So that's it. It has taken me almost as long to write this email as it would to write the story. I realize you'll probably need to condense this if you decide to put it on the Challenge Page. I truly hope someone has an interest in this story, as I would love to see it come to life.
