Several times each year, we pack up six students, food, water, clothes and bedding (not to mention all of the JESUS film equipment), and make trips into neighboring Mozambique.
Our purpose is twofold:
1.  To share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those in Mozambique who don't know Him.
2.  To give our students an opportunity to do "missions" and listen for God's call on their life.  (from these trips, several students have made commitments to become missionaries).
Each time we go, it is truly a "mountain top" experience and this trip was no exception.  We spent the week before the trip preparing by praying daily with the students selected for the team.  This unified us as a group and gave God opportunity to give us vision for the work.

What we have found is that each time we plan and prepare, God always has His own plan for us once we get there!  One of the reasons we go in October is because of the rainy season, but this year, the rains are coming early.  We were dismayed to be driving through rain on our way to the village.  Once we arrived at our destination, we had to use the 4WD to get up the slippery, wet mountain and even then, we did a bit of sliding back down before finally getting there.  But the rain did not take God by surprise... as it turned out, there were the beginnings of a church (no walls, but a reasonable roof) there for us to use.

We set up the JESUS film equipment under the roof on the top of the hill and it could be seen from quite a distance.  The first night we showed it to several hundred.  The second night we showed it to several thousand!  Praise God!
The students shared the Gospel with people in Mozambique using a variety of methods including: door-to-door, small group, open air, individual counselling and of course through the JESUS film and Bible distribution.
We find that they can minister best when we are not directly involved.  If they share, people come to Christ.  If we are with them, we become the focus because they are so distracted by having a"
mzungu white man in the house"!
Many people came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ during this trip.  Illiteracy is so very high in this area and Bibles are very scarce.  Those that can read, were given Bibles (Chichewa version) which they will gladly share with others.  Some were given them knowing that their children will be able to read for them.
We work with the church of Mozambique, so that there will be opportunities for follow up after we leave.  The people were hungry for the Word and eagerly came for teaching at every opportunity.

GuleWam Kulu . . .

The "Gule Wam Kulu", a very occultic, secret men's group are very anti-Christian.  During their dances, they believe spirits of ancestors or animals such as the hyena or crocodile possesses them.  Most boys are initiated into this group at the time of puberty.

During this trip to Mozambique, several of the famous Nyau (Gule Wam Kulu) dancers came to a personal, saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

During door-to-door evangelism, several of our students met up with the village witch-doctor (witch-doctors are known to be very powerful and influential in their villages).
As they shared the truth of the Gospel with this witch-doctor, God did a miracle in his life and he was able to see and understand the Truth, coming to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ!
