Organising the GCSE options evening

This has to be the most important evening of the  year

                                        for the history department.

The following may be useful pointers

                                1) Preparation begins in September- good and effective

lessons from the start are necessary.

2)Effective communication with parents- explain why

students should take history, give quality support for

why they should take it. Give out flyers weeks before

                                the night.

                                3) Let parents see what you are doing -get examples of

                                good practice out.

                                4) The night will be busy use Powerpoint slide shows

to go through the course. When you meet with parents

the discussion can then be focused on why not what

                                will be done.

                                5) Pick your syllabus carefully- get parents on board.

Most Modern World Syllabuses are very attractive to

parents and illustrate relevance much more clearly than

                                 some courses.
