Character - Info and Physical

Name: Valen Kiyojin
Age: 16 years old
Birthday: May 20th
Year Attending:  1st year
Zodiac Sign: Taurus
Gender: Male
Ability: Temporarily slow down time. Unfortunately, the side effects after being used can range from a headache (using the ability for a couple of seconds, ~2-3), to being out cold for some days (using the ability at the most extreme, ~5-10 minutes). Uses kickboxing otherwise.
Race: Human
Family: Deceased Father (Friedrich), Mother (Meya), and a sister whose whereabouts are unknown (Katrina)
Nationality: Half German/Half Japanese.
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 150 lbs.
Eyes: A stormy green.
Hair: Reddish with streaks of blonde. Cut short, but kept in a sort of spiky dreads, and pulled back behind a bandana.
Apparel: Normal clothes would be a pair of black or brown cargo pants (two thick white stripes on the side), with either a tight black or blue shirt (sporting various brand names in the middle on the front), with a loose green snowboarder's vest over top. As for the battle attire, about the only thing that changes is that the vest is gone to allow better movement.
Extras: A tattoo of a distorted (think: waves) clock on his left shoulder.
Other stuff: A round pendant of some sort hangs from a black necklace, and he always wears a digital watch on his left wrist, along with various bracelets and chains (on his pants, right side). A pair of industry standard Koss headphones are around the back of his neck, with the cord leading down into his right pocket of the vest.
General physical: If one would look at Valen for the first time, they would see a boy of about average height and weight, medium build, and a clean shaven face. Trim and fit, he keeps in shape with a jog and exercises every morning before class. Handsome, but in a boyish way, he never was one that thrived on attracting those of the opposite sex (not exactly a playboy of any sort). He's adopted a slight slouched over stance, which makes him seem shorter than he actually is (with the bulky clothes not helping much).
Dream/Aspiration: Finding his sister and being able to raise the bar on how long he can maintain a slowed down time without fainting from over exertion.

Personality

General: He's usually a very reserved person, not really liking to talk to others, and would much rather be absorbed in the metal blaring through his headphones. Though, upon finding someone that he can open up to, he becomes the closest of friends, talking about anything and everything. He can be seen walking through the streets all during the day, when not in class, with eyes closed and listening to his music. He's also quite easily annoyed, which in turn leads to quick anger, especially if he's on one of his 'walks'.
Strengths: Very musically inclined and quite a techy.
Weaknesses: Can be quite hot-headed and a bit of a slacker.
Likes: Darker colours (black, blue, green, red), metal music, playing the electric bass guitar, video games, new technology, and junk food of any sort.
Dislikes: Being bothered with useless facts and as for food, anchovies. Stay away from the anchovies, they're deadly.
Likes (in people): If all people would be quiet and would leave him alone, then the world would be just dandy for Valen. Alas, it is not so. People that share his interests and/or attitude will definitely score points with him.
Dislikes (in people): Loud, brash, and ignorant.
Crushes: Not having had too much experience with the opposite sex other than the occasional date, Valen doesn't know what to look for. Probably someone that's just as quiet as him and can hold a decent conversation. But then again, who knows what he may find in some of an opposite nature. As they say, opposites attract.

History: Born as Valen Koch to father Friedrich Koch and mother Meya Kiyojin, the boy was the product of the marriage between a businessman and a flower shop owner. Friedrich was a man whose business in Germany was ruined due to various financial mistakes, and since it was quite common news that Japan was a thriving center of technology and business opportunities, Mr. Koch immigrated there to start a new life. Things did not quite go as planned. If it hadn't been for the quiet woman he had met in a flower shop, he might have even committed suicide, for he had nothing left to live for. The man had gotten involved with the Yakuza, mostly by accident, and upon not being able to meet their demands for money as they had done a job for him, he found his house ruined and all his possessions burned. Love immediately sparked between the woman in the shop and the depressed man, and a new life, together, had begun. They were married within the year. Meya was pulling in most of the income from the flower shop, they had an apartment above the store, and a child, Valen, after two years of their getting together, with another, a girl, Katrina Koch being born when Valen was 2 years old. The boy showed immediate athletic skills, and was soon enrolled in different martial arts courses for short periods of time, from which he excelled the most in kickboxing. Upon getting older, he evolved those kickboxing skills and continued down that path, almost becoming the national champion for children under 10 in the sport at the age of 9 years old. Many attendants of the tournaments Valen enrolled in were left wondering why there was a sense of time being slowed down during his fights, and his coach brushed off the headaches as being a normal part of fighting. The Yakuza soon caught wind of this boy, the son of a man they had had dealings with before, and one day showed up at the flower store to take the Valen into their care and raise him as one of their own. Friedrich was the only one in the store, with Katrina quietly sleeping upstairs, and refused. Ten minutes later he was lying dead in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head, Katrina was kidnapped and roughly shoved in the Japanese mafia car, and the shop was sent up in flames. That evening, when Meya and Valen returned home, they were in shock at the destruction and loss of what had, just that morning, been a place teeming with the warmth of a family. Fire fighters discovered only one body, that of Friedrich for which autopsies showed that he had been dead from a bullet long before the fire started, and Valen made it his personal mission to find his sister. Valen changed his last name to erase any affiliation with his father in case whoever had killed Friedrich came to kill him, his mother went into hiding, and the rest, as they say, is history.
