1408
John Cusack stars as supernatural writer Mike Enslin who already has two hit books focusing on supernatural phenomena and is currently researching for his next novel. Enslin recieves a post card in the mail cleverly telling him about hotel room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel in New York City. Enslin decides to take up the challenge believing that the myths he has researched about the room is simply just a myth. Hotel Manager Mr. Olin(Samuel L. Jackson) tries to change Enslin's mind, stating the room is truly evil. Enslin doesn't change his mind and insists on the key to the room. Enslin then spends the night there and soons encounters the terror the room has to offer. This film also stars Tony Shaloub, Jasmine Jessica Anthony, and Mary McCormack. This movie works for one reason and that is Cusack. He does a great job acting in scenes where nothing is real. This film will literally play with you. Yet, when was over I found myself liking it. I have to give credit to the ending. I was expecting some terrible, strange and quick conclusion, but the payoff is very good.
