Mr. 3000
Baseball movies kick ass. They always have and they always will. This film stars Bernie Mac as Stan Ross, a long-time Milwaukee Brewer who simply plays the game of baseball for himself. He just hit his 3000 hit and decides that since that will put him in the hall of fame, he will suddenly retire. His 3000 hits became his life. He named himself Mr. 3000 and opened up a strip mall with stores dedicated to his 3000 hits. Now nine years later, someone realizes that Ross actually only had 2.997 due to a clerical error, Ross decides that he must make a comeback and get the three hits he needs to rewrite history. Along, the way he also learns how to be a team player. This movie also stars Angela Bassett and Michael Rispoli. This movie only works because of Bernie Mac. He gives a good performance that proves he is ready to be a lead actor in a film. The cast around him in this film is weak. The script is subpar. Yet, I like the film and because Bernie Mac does a good job, I recommend it.
