The third installment of this series beings stars Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, who is locked away in Davy Jones(Bill Nighly) chest and is eventually rescued by Will Turner(Orlando Bloom), Barabosa(Geoffrey Rush), and Elizabeth Swann(Keira Knightly). After that, they must stop the Flying Dutchman which is being now run by Lord Cutler Beckett(Tom Hollander) from taking out all the world's living pirates. There isn't much plot to the film as it is basically taken from the second film, yet it still works. The performances are again good. Depp is histerical as Sparrow as usual. The film had it's laughs and some good fight scenes as well as great special effects. It's biggest problem was its length. We had a two and a half-hour setup for a half-hour battle. It wasn't really necessary to wait that long. This film could have easily been trimmed up an hour. By the time the final battle came along my back was so sore I almost didn't care. Yet, I still enjoyed this film enough to give it a recommendation. |
