Is it me or is there something about Anthony Hopkins portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lector that is intimidating. Intimidating in a good way. Hopkins reprises his role of the insane cannibal eating Dr. Lector in the third installment of the famous horror trilogy that includes Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. In Lambs we were introduced to the mysterious Dr. Lector as he helped a FBI agent tracked down a serial killer. In Hannibal, Dr. Lector was on the run. In this new film we see Dr. Lector as we did in Lambs and is kind of the way we want to see him. The film begins with Hannibal commiting one last murder, though we don't see it, it's easy to assume. Moments later he is visited by FBI Agent William Graham(Edward Norton Jr.). Graham has apparently used Lector as a asset for tracking down serial killers and has some new information about the latest serial killer he is trying to find. It's shortly thereafter that Graham realizes Lector is the guy he is looking for and captures him. The film then shifts to three years later where Graham is looking once again for a serial killer and visits Lector in a sercurity prison and asks for advice. This film is much like Silence of the Lambs, and that is what makes it so good. Hannibal wasn't a bad film, but with Dr. Lector on the loose the whole time, he loses some of his intimidation. In this film he is back behind bars where we like him. It's where we respect him. Hopkins does a wonderful job once again with the character of Dr. Hannibal Lector. Norton Jr. does a great job portraying Graham. All in all, this film was well done. |
