Friday Night Lights
This movie stars Billy Bob Thornton as Gary Gaines, the head football coach of the Permian High Panthers back in 1988. Permian is a small town in Texas that simply is captivated every friday night in the fall by there high school football team. This puts tons of pressure on the team as anything short of a state championship is considered a dissapointment. This film also stars Tim McGraw and Lucus Black. This film would not be good if it wasn't for the performances in the film. Thornton is at his best and McGraw is suprisingly good. As for the film itself, it captivates the excitement of high school football, but lacks a story. Yes the season is filled with storylines, but nothing that doesn't happen normally in football. Any storylines used in the film of the field seem like they were taken directly from Varsity Blues. The ending is also very dry. Yet, I liked the performances and liked how they captivated the excitement of high school football.
