This suprisingly enjoyable film stars Edward Norton as Eisenheim, a magician who specializes in illusions. At a young age Eisenheim falls in love with Sophie(Jessica Biel) who comes from a more wealthy and powerful family. It's because of this that Sophie is forbidden to speak to Eisenheim. Years later they meet again on stage during one of Eisenheim's performances. Eisenheim then decides to stop at nothing to get her back and outsmart the royal house of Vienna. This film also stars Paul Giamatti, Rufus Sewell, and Jake Wood. What makes this film work is the performances. Norton does wonders with the role of Eisenheim. Giamatti is also very good in the film. The only complaint I have with this film is the way it wraps the movie up with a brief 30 second showing of what happened. This is something that has been done too many times before. Other then that this is a good film. |
