This film stars Thomas Sangster as a young boy growing up in the final days of the roman empire. When his parents, the king and queen, are murdered, he is taken captive by evil barbarians. However a small group of legionnaires let by Aurelius(Colin Firth), set out to save the boy. This film also stars Peter Mullan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ben Kingsley. The problem with this film is that it never appears to know exactly what it wants to be. We have a film that appears to be serious half the time and then tries to be comedic the rest of the time. I never really got a feel as to what the filmmakers were going for. Firth does well with his role, and Rai is incredibly hot, but the films most talented actor in Kingsley is buried in role that has him act like Yoda from Star Wars. This film has its moments, but is never consistent in what it wants to be.....whatever that is? |
