Tobey Maguire reprises his role for a third time as Peter Parker in the latest installment in the "Spiderman" series. This time around Peter is ready to ask Mary Jane(Kirsten Dunst) to marry him. However, things get complicated when new villains such as the Sandman(Thomas Haden Church) and Venon(Topher Grace) arrive to erupt havoc on New York City. Peter must also battle his friend Harry whose is still bent on revenge on Spiderman and battle his own inner demons when a strange spiderman suit changes his entire lifestyle. This film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard. This has to be one of the more disappointing sequels in a while. After two very good films, expecially the second, I had high hopes for this one. In return it seemed as if the series to a giant step sideways. The film returns a couple of storylines from the previous films, but they seem so dried now and this film does nothing to give it a little moisture. How many times do we need to see Peter and Mary Jane get together, break up, get together, break up, get together, break up. How many times do we have to see Peter and Harry be friends, enemies, friends, enemies, and finally friends. It just gets old. Not to mention Parker seems to have no clue as to why his relationship with Mary Jane is so bumby. Then to make matters worse, he gets consumed by a black spidey suit that makes him even more of a dork. At one point I thought the role of Spiderman was being played by Jim Carrey with the whole musical bit. Then we have the underdeveloped villains. I'll just leave it at that. This film was basically composed of a number of ideas, all that seem to be underdeveloped or overused. |
